D-will wants a QB

But what about Matt Moooooore? He poops gold and cures cancer with a simple wink! It'll be oooooookay, DeAngeloooo, Moooore is da saviorrrrr.

LOL.. think you are confusing people grasping for straws. Delhomme sucked and the team would not spend money on a free agent (or drafted QB), and he was on the roster. He done well in spot duty..did he not? Delhomme sucked, did he not? The team would not get a quality free agent in, would they not?

Funny how "optimism" works in some situations and not others...guess it depends on who you are and what player you do it for...in that crappy situation, Fox, WalMarty, and Richardson had put the team in. After all, most huddle people are looking for the "right now" impact and not down the road, bigger picture.

Now, I called for Delhomme when Peete sucked it up....and some huddle fans supported Peete (because he was the starting QB and Fox was "the man").

To be fair, Fox (LAME DUCK) gave a crap last year...so, Moore may not be that bad (as well as Clausen).

Now we have a new staff and what looks like a willingness to actually and meaningfully address the most important position in the game...lets hope they do...

So everyone who has left the Panthers has now done so not because of the coaching staff, but because we haven't found a franchise QB in the past two years. Typical Huddle logic...

I think we should take a gamble on Newton, but even if we do he won't start in 2011, not unless Moore and Clausen play like they did last year. And I think that's highly unlikely.

I also think Williams would be an idiot not to test Free Agency. If the Fins make him a stupid high offer, we will get compensatory picks. And if someone offered me a first and third for him right now, I would take it. A 28 year old RB who has missed games in each of the past two seasons? Sign me up.

He's good, but how many games would we have won last year if he had stayed healthy?

Damn... guess we won't have D-Will next season then. Because Clausen's garbage, a vet isn't going to make much of a difference, and any QB drafted this season will need to sit on the bench and develop.

That is where you raw wrong IMO......the difference between Clausen and a remotely functional vet is HUGE. Carolina got average qb playing 08.....Jake was a shell of himself then. carolina has the ol, rb, and d to compete pending a Clausen or 09 Jake isn't sabotaging them

I believe we need a vet, yes. But if D-Will is banking on the future of our franchise's QB play, then a vet simply won't do.

Lol @ anyone that thinks our offense will go from dud to stud by adding Newton. If I'm wrong I'll eat crow, but Cam Newton isn't going to all of a sudden make Williams and Stewart less injury prone, bring back Smitty's speed and hands, and make our o-line look like less of a revolving door.

And before you call me a hater, I wouldn't mind drafting the kid, I like him and think he could be great, but y'all are setting the bar a bit high. Plus even his most staunch supporters believe him to be a project.

And yes Jeremy Shockey is an absolute upgrade, but NONE of you thought he was worth a poo the last few years until he signed with us, and now he is super badass. I just think people are setting themselves up to be really dissappointed.

Our D could be Top 10 out of the gate next year on coaching alone with the talent we have. And if our offense can manage to be ranked in the low 20's while getting 7-8 wins, I will consider it to be a highly successful campaign.

I hope I'm dead wrong and one guy can mask every other glaring problem we have, but we'll see.

agreed. i still see us with a losing record next season with either Gabbert, Newton or Clausen. We may have an outside chance at 8 depending on strength of schedule but we're not winning the division in our first year with a new coach and system, and a rookie or 2nd year QB. I still think this is a 2-3 year plan to get back on top of the division at a minimum.

Actually I think the one thing that Cam might be able to do well is find Smitty on broken plays. His mobility would allow Smith to stretch the field and find open spots underneath.

    • It must be an early Christmas for JT O'Sullivan having Thielen back so he could put a coal in Thielen's stocking every chance he gets.  Honestly, the biggest surprise is not so much the anticipation. There were those moments here and there last year as well. It's that even that one positive quality he had seemingly vanished his first two games to where it looked like it was all but over, only for it to start coming back some until you get exclamation points all over this game film. And some of those throws were under a lot of duress, something I feel is something new. Finally, those deeper shots are starting to land. Not all of them, but enough that defenses may have to start respecting them. No guarantees whether this will end up as more of anomaly but I certainly hope it isn't. The Green Bay game was a sampler of what BY could be. Against KC, we got a meal. If we could start getting these meals regularly, we might actually have something to work with here.

    • Heels let another team go up 20 on them but this time they complete the comeback. HD never seems to have his team ready but he makes great halftime adjustments. Powell played the majority of the second half and his defense was the difference along with his big three pointer to give the Heels the lead for good. Trimble and Davis were also spectacular. Carolina can’t let Auburn get out to a 20 point lead though, they won’t be able to come back from that.
