I do not want Newton, Do you?

What exactly do you call making a thread titled "Cam Newton statistically similar to Aaron Rodgers"?

I didn't make that thread mind you. But saying someone is statistically similar in something like this isn't the same thing as saying they play the same style.

It is a statistical analysis of him breaking the pocket and abandoning his passing plays before going through his progressions and not just taking a one read and running. He threw the ball on 154 of 169 called pass plays. That isn't saying that he plays the same style as Aaron Rodgers it is saying that Cam Newton is no more of a run first QB on passing plays than Aaron Rodgers is.

It is designed to set a precedent not make a comparison.

But I didn't make that thread. See for yourself.

Cam Newton statistically similar to Jamarcus Russell

Choosing a very selective sample size and stats, I've determined those two players are very similar

In their respective bowl games during their final college seasons they posted these stats:

20/34 2 TDs 1 Int

21/34 2 TDs 1 Int

That settles it folks.

I'm using facts and my facts are more accurate and applicable than yours.

Factually, he's more similar to Russell

Dude, the very argument you are making doesn't even make sense. The stats we are discussing aren't TD's, INTs, or passing yards.

And it isn't about who is more similar to each other.

Do you want to draft Cam Newton?

I am so surprised as to how many people are on the Newton bandwagon. He is not a championship quarterback because he is not a pure passer. I would think that I am speaking for the majority but apparently not. Cam Newton reminds me of JaMarcus Russell.

I do not want us to draft Newton because I still feel that Jimmy Clausen has not had an adequate opportunity to prove himself. Clausen started his rookie season for the worst offense in the league because of many different factors.

I am a Jimmy Clausen fan and supporter.

You realize that Russel showed up to the combine out of shape and overweight? RED FLAG!!! Plus the Raiders are idiots, especially with guy who couldn't be in top form for the most import initial interview in his life. You are comparing apples to oranges...

JC will make a great back up..one day. Like Moore did, then flopped when starting. Great SPOT duty. Most teams don't break down film on back ups...

    • Just had Thanksgiving meal with a couple dozen family and friends. I lucked out and got one of the smoked turkey legs. Stuffing, mashed taters and gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, kale, smoked ham, chicken and rice, corn, lima beans, cranberry sauce, and great people. My brother got his guitar out and we got to singing. Lots of actual conversations with people I hardly  ever get to see, haven't seen in a while, or who I never met before. Just a great moment to remember.
    • 3-8 would be a higher win percentage than 3-9
    • Same... With the personnel the Niners had, that defense could have been historically good in the right hands. Under Wilks they were certainly good, they didn't quite rise to that level. Honestly, I see Wilks kinda like I see Rivera: fantastic person, decent head coach. Skill wise, phenomenal DB coach, so-so DC. His greatest strength is his leadership. Hard to find many better in that department. In the Xs and Os / execution area though, not as good. Bottom Line: Wilks is the sort of coach that needs a staff that excels in those aspects of the game where he's weaker. But, like Rivera, I don't know that he scouts assistants very well. That as much as anything might be why he's not in the NFL now.
