I do not want Newton, Do you?

Does anyone else see a problem when a guy joins the forum in Jan and already has over 2500 posts, and almost every one of them is about Newton? Teeray=Cecil??

Terray gets very emotional when you question his Panther fandom. He's assured everyone that he is a REAL Panther fan and it's just a coincidence he joined the board recently and we have the #1 pick and Cam is his favorite player.

He even made a thread or two not about Newton to throw us off the trail and PROVE his fandom.

I've used all of his starts in the NFL to talk about him and form my opinion. I thought he played very well at the end of 2007 as well as at the end of 2009.

He didn't play well at all in 2010 but it wasn't as bad as it was made out to be. He played a terrible half in NY but didn't get helped out at all by playcalling (3 straight passing plays out of shotgun from the 3 yard line when our run game is our bread and butter) and him pressing to make plays, played subpar in Tampa but still had the team in a position to compete before being pulled prematurely plus he had a concussion mixed in and was one of only a few players in the NFL to start the week after getting a concussion. His next start he played very well. He had one boneheaded play but other than that put up over 300 yards and 2 TDs with no help from the running game. I thought he played okay in Stl but was the victim of some bad play calls and Smitty giving up on a play and his multiple big drops in that game. The next week he got hurt in the first quarter and was done for the season.

People forget our team was built to run the football and when that didn't happen it put a lot of strain on the offense.

You have to take the stats then look at things that can't be quantified to form an opinion. I think based on his total body of work with consideration for the team around him in all three seasons he is still a viable option at the QB position.

I've never said he was the GOAT and would be happy getting someone who I think is better than him to play the QB position.

This is all well and good, but why don't you use the same logic when breaking down Cam? Instead you choose to discredit any of his college accomplishments. You say the college game doesn't mean anything when it comes to the NFL, but the truth is that the college game is the main source for evaluating these guys.

I've tried to avoid these stupid threads (and this forum as of late) as much as possible due to all the poo tossing. I stick mainly to the Draft section which isn't completely dominated by Newton threads. Nothing new gets mention you all (and the media as well) just keep recycling the same points.

That's exactly what I've done with Newton. Looked at his college games, his numbers, and figured out why they are that way then formed an opinion of how I think it will translate to the NFL.

I think we all need to stop trying to convince each other who we should or shouldn't take..I have my reasons for liking Cam as our pick, and everyone else has their own reasons why to like/not like him. Whether or not we draft him..it's not up to us to prove us right or wrong..It's up to Newton. No amount of arguing about what he has done or will do can change that. Are we just arguing for arguments sake by now? We can't change anybody's opinion this late in the game..

I guess you're a must better talent evaluator than Marty and Rivera, because we're serious considering Cam with the #1 pick, and I'm not sure you'll be able to handle that. Oh well, you'll be a LA Jaguar fan in a couple of years anyways.

I'm not saying I'm better or worse, just that I have my own opinions. If they don't draft him and he plays well somewhere else am I worse then them or as good because they also passed. If they don't draft him and he sucks somewhere else am I as good or better? If they do draft him and he's great I'm probably worse than them. If they do draft him and he's terrible does that mean I'm better?

I didn't want them to draft Jimmy and they did and he's terrible so does that mean I'm at least better than Hurney and maybe or maybe not Rivera?

To your second point, I lasted through the disaster that is/was Jimmy Clausen so I think it'll take a little more than two terrible picks in a row to get me outta here.

Actually Andrew Luck was my favorite player but he isn't in this draft. Almost every thread is about Newton so sorry. Somebody start a thread worth posting in and I will be there.

Well the argument at hand was based on that season alone. Taking things out of context only makes you look foolish. A poster said he only played well during that stretch because the running game averaged over 200 yards per game, which wasn't the case.

Then you came in and said that he didn't have a good YPC because he couldn't throw the intermediate pass during that stretch and I showed that he had a very very good YPC.

Now you have no basis for your latest assumption so you look back to a completely different discussion and pull stats out of context to back this up.

Keep trying sir.

False. You have said several time. Noooo. But you can't count last season bc Fox was bad!! Jeff Davidson was bad!! Both guys were there in 2009 also and Moore couldn't even run the offense he had been learning for 3 years. Yet you can only count 4 games in 2009 to judge Matt Moore. NO FAIR LAST SEASON DOESN'T COUNT BWAAAAA!!!! post-7165-133194782596_thumb.gif

You have said "You can't fairly judge him from two games but you have declared him a NFL starter from 4 out of about 9 starts .

But... but 2007 he was 2-1  57% completion percentage, 3 tds, 5 ints, and a lossed fumble?? Surely you aren't counting those as well.

But hey for 4 games in 2009 he was really a shade above average. :hurray:

you're confused... he had 3 TDs and 2 INTs in his 3 starts and had a 62% completion percentage. if you're including the random garbage time he played in earlier in the season fine, but you named his starts.

Teeray wasn't a fan then. He didn't know Moore was brought in at the end of a half with 1 second left to throw a Hail Mary that got intercepted in the endzone.

He doesn't understand that Fox didn't have an extension and was a lame duck and how that could have affected the team. He didn't know that our team was built to run and our best run blocker didn't play this year thus fugging up the whole offense. He doesn't know anything about our team other than what stat sheets say because he wasn't a fan. He's a Cam fan and nothing more.

You can't expect him to know much of anything besides what ESPN says in it's stat line
