I do not want Newton, Do you?

His decision was unrelated to us picking #1. He may not have had any particular interest in being a Panther but he certainly wasn't trying to avoid the team, either.

What evidence do you have that he "snubbed" us?

He'd said all along, "I want to finish my degree" and "I want to graduate with my teammates." He was intending to do this all along, but we ALMOST enticed him to come out.

He just didn't turn us down, he turned the entire NFL down.

You don't think there is at least a chance that he lied about his reasons for going to back to school??

I actually tend to agree with you but I have no idea what his true motivations were. I take him at his word that he was going back for his degree and for another season with his guys but like all these GMs maybe he is just saying that bc of the public fallout of saying "I don't want to play for the Panthers therefore I am staying in school."

Playing devil's advocate here MAV bc I agree with you i think it had nothing to do with the Panthers.

Here we go again  IF Luck wanted to be here he would have came out this year. He snubbed the Panthers. Your coming off as some kind of ex-girlfriend stalker, he doesn't want you!

An idiot would think that Luck wouldn't pull an Eli Manning if the Panthers pick #1 next year and Rivera will not let that happen either. There are other fish in the sea and we have #1 this year and maybe not again for a very long time.

You act as if there isn't a lockout, and like he didn't state repeatedly before last season and during that he wanted to finish his degree.

Nah, I really don't. I think there were 3 main reason, in order of importance: Graduating with a degree, graduating with his friends, and trying to get a Pac-10 title next year. I actually believe a small part of it was that Stanford told him that Harbaugh was coming back and Luck didn't want to abandon his teammates when the truth came out.

I just don't see any reason to believe anything that what he said. His story has been consistent since the start of the season, and the way he lives and acts seems to suggest it is true.

Plus Charlotte would actually put him closer to his family (or at least his father, not sure if the family has moved out to the east coast yet) and family is reportedly a pretty big part of his life. His father also spoke on this subject and said repeatedly his son never made his decision based on who was drafting him.

I give up. You just can not talk sense to idiots so why bother??

Go ahead and draft the great Cam Newton and see where it gets us.

We will be drafting #1 again next year and Luck will be there but not

for us because we will have Big Headed Cam as our leader. Sheesh idiots.

fug Luck

kinda like you with matt moore?!?

I like to have discussions about Moore. People can have whatever opinion they want about him but when it's not based in facts I like to object. He played great sometimes and played really shitty other times but to define him solely by this season is ignorant.

I've never reached for some statistic to prove Moore will be great or that he will be like Aaron Rodgers. My arguments are usually rooted in facts with opinions thrown in based on those facts.

The Cam fanboys project their opinions of him on everyone and act like it's fact while ignoring all the negative. They fall back on college like it means something in terms of the NFL and I use NFL stats for Moore to back up my arguments. There really is no comparison.

You act like you didnt spend all of November and December telling us Luck to Carolina was a lock and Cam Newton wouldnt even be drafted 1st round. Being wrong is your specialty. Luck dont give a fug about you by the way.

The more I think about it, I'm beginning to think that taking a shot at drafting Cam Newton might be worth it.

Think about it... this is possibly the weakest draft in a decade. Nobody jumps off the page and demands attention, except Cam Newton. He plays an exciting brand of football, and has a larger than life personality. When has Carolina ever had that, other than Smitty? (And most times, he's just pissy :D)

Cam would sell tickets, and has tremendous upside.

He could be a bust. No doubt about it. But I think that it would hurt a whole hell of a lot less to draft Newton and have him bust (with the rookie cap) than it would be to NOT take him, and watch him prove all the doubters wrong. He CAN'T be worse than Jimmy... hell, at least Cam can run! And whatever, if Cam sucks, I'm sure there are other suckers out there who would take him off our hands because of his potential. We are gonna suck again without a QB... I'd rather take a shot at being good than KNOWING what I'm gonna get with Jimmy.
