I do not want Newton, Do you?

No, that wasn't it.

We would have to start a new thread to list all the reasons, but I'm glad you drew the conclusion that both comparisons based on statistical analysis were wrong but I'm concerned you couldn't detect the sarcasm in the posts.

I'm also glad you didn't spell it "allot" so I guess that earns you SOME points.

I kind of missed the whole arguement you were having and cought the tail end where you were say, newton is 6'6 and russell is 6'6(cam is 6'5 by the way). anyways, carry on....we huggers take cam talk serious...

Fixed.

The moral of the story is you can't point to obscure stats and draw the conclusion that they will be like someone else without factoring in everything else.

Honestly by your logic the only moral of Little Red Riding Hood would be you shouldn't wear red hoodies. :o

To me Cam reminds me of The Golden Calf of Bristol. So ask yourself if you were to remove Cam from this years draft and insert The Golden Calf of Bristol, would The Golden Calf of Bristol be the number 1 pick in this years draft. If you answer yes, then you validate one thing: Just how weak this QB class is.

Cam is a much better, more complete passer than The Golden Calf of Bristol was coming out. Cam has a much stronger arm than The Golden Calf of Bristol, is more accurate, a better athlete, faster, and has an NFL-ready quick release.

The Golden Calf of Bristol had to completely change his whole throwing motion and all his mechanics. Cam has to learn how to take snaps from center and learn the proper footwork, as did/does The Golden Calf of Bristol. Both have to learn to read NFL defenses and execute NFL offenses. But overall, Cam is the superior player by FAR as a pro prospect.

For the record, I think The Golden Calf of Bristol is going to be a beast in Denver. I see both he & Cam as the 'next generation' of athletic QB's that could change the way NFL coaches view the QB position as far as game-planning and scouting.

The Golden Calf of Bristol didn't have to change all his mechanics, in addition to taking drop backs he had to change carried the ball back, at shoulder height rather than with a low wind up.

Combine numbers would also suggest that the athletic difference between The Golden Calf of Bristol and Cam isn't as wide as you'd like to think.

Steve Young?? John Elway?? Aaron Rodgers?? They are good runners no??

Oh wait... this is the part where you tell me he is a better runner than those guys so therefore he is poo and despite his gaudy passing numbers he is the worst passer ever and "raw".

I've already answered this. Cam Newton probably runs the ball more than all those guys combined in a season.

As soon as you said that Cam reminds you of JaMarcus Russell I realized you have no clue what the hell you are talking about so basically your opinion means absolutely nothing. Cam may be a bust but comparing him to Russell is idiotic.

This thread would have been more understandable if the OP had compared Newton to Vince Young.

Neither QBs are extremely fast or have superior pocket passing skills or read defenses all that great.

Yet somehow, they are considered to be some kind of "total package".

When you try to make the comparison of Cam Newton to Jamarcus Russell you kind of lose your credibility of having football knowledge. It just goes to show if you stop and evaluate the two players they are actually very different. If you want to compare any QB in this class to Jamarcus Russell it would be Ryan Mallett. Both are big tall guys with monster arms. Jamarcus I will say was more mobile coming out of college but not so much in the NFL when he was almost 300lbs. Oh and don't forget they both have questions about drug use lol.

Also where are people getting the Idea that Aaron Rodgers is faster than Newton? Their 40 times seems to say otherwise.

There are a lot of similarities but you guys are just too blinded by your love towards Newton that you even want to acknowledge their existence. Both players played in the SEC, only had one good season, have big arms, are physically big players, statistics are almost identical, etc. Do some unbiased research for yourself.

I guess Ashor doesnt have any answers to back up his statement

Go read some of my posts and then get back to me.

Russell was fat, lazy, and un-motivated. His accuracy was HORRIBLE and his LSU team was stacked with talent. Russell also launched himself into being the #1 pick with one good bowl game.

Newton is ripped from head to toe, is more accurate, loads more athletic, and carried Auburn on his back to an undefeated season and national championship. Notice you don't hear about many other Auburn players in the draft this year. Only Fairley is considered a top talent in the draft; and then only 2 other plays are even expected to have a shot at being drafted: WR Darvin Adams & LT Lee Ziemba and both are expected to go late.

As for Newton running the ball a lot... it was the offense the coaches told him to run. As I posted before, coming out of high school and also at Blinn College, he was MUCH more of a pocket passer. He had to convince scouts his senior year that he could run and be a dual-threat QB as opposed to just a pocket passer.

Also, the VAST majority of his runs were designed runs. On designed pass plays he only scrambled like 11-12% of the time, which is right about where Aaron Rodgers was last year. When passes were called, he threw the football; he's not Michael Vick as far as taking off at the first sign of pressure. He's much more adept at buying time and finding the open man downfield.

I mean, I do have questions about Cam Newton if I'm honest. My biggest question is whether he can adjust to an NFL offense and learn to read NFL defenses, but that can be said of any spread QB coming into the NFL and we saw last year with Clausen that being 'pro ready' out of college doesn't mean you're ready for the pros. In fact, Bradford, The Golden Calf of Bristol, & McCoy - ALL spread QB's - looked MUCH better than Jimmy did last year.

You compare him to Russell... ok, for the moment let's say he IS similar to Russell in terms of his skillset - which he really isn't, but let's assume. Aside from his horrible accuracy issues, the thing that made Russell such a massive bust was that he had no drive and was lazy and out of shape. He was simply unwilling to work to be great.

I simply do not see this problem with Cam Newton. I know some do, but I don't know why. I noticed in the Gruden QB school clip he sees a clip of Peyton Manning and immediately starts talking about how much films he watches and how he's going to have to do the same to be great. He gets the amount of work that goes into it. Not to mention he's a LOT more intelligent than Russell & Vince Young, who is another favorite comparison.
