How good is Darius?

How good is this guy and what is his ceiling? I hear from the "experts" he does not have the ceiling of Suh so where does he fit?I know teams double teamed him more as a junior but to be considered for the first or 2nd pick how much impact will he make in the NFL? I guess the real question is he good enough to be consistantly disruptive?

My guess is if the Panthers do not feel there is a qb worthy he will be the guy.

suh has a high ceiling because he is still playing off of raw athletic ability.

dareus's ceiling is considered low because he is damn near perfect right out of the box...it doesn't look like he has much too improve on but i believe he is going to surprise a lot of people.

...and yeah, he is good enough to be consistantly disruptive.

and to quote hurney from this thread...

you know, Dareus changes the way your defense plays, plays across the line...

dareus is the kris jenkins or julius peppers presence the defense is missing.

he not only is always in position to make plays, he's smart enough to manipulate ball movement so that everyone else around him can too.

the kid is smart, very smart...and he doesn't get enough credit for it.

Dareus is very good at doing his job, but he isn't the dominate type of player you take with the 1st pick. He'll eat up blockers, but he doesn't have the initial first step you'd like to see outta a great defensive tackle like Warren Sapp (past), Kevin Williams (present), Suh (future).

Dareus is a blue chip player. Him, Patrick Peterson and Von Miller are the only "sure things" in this draft. Everyone else in the top 10 only has "blue chip potential".

His first step is very good actually. He surpassed Fairley because his speed, size, work ethic, and technique was better. Dareus has incredible burst for his size, he's VERY smart, he can shut down the run in the backfield and disrupt the passing game. He's an every down player. To pass up on him would be ludicrous.

No, I guess you'll just see when the season starts. He's a big body, that's it. If you watched Alabama games this year you would know his first step is not nearly as quick as the guys I mentioned, you don't see a burst or explosive step, just a huge body moving forward is all, he wastes a lot of time trying to get off blocks and he isn't a natural pass rusher.

Yet he is labeled a "blue chip player" by people that actually GET PAID to study draft prospects. If Warren Sapp himself thinks he's worthy of the #1 pick, then obviously he's a talented DT. To say he's just a body is ignorant.

If he compares to Jenkins then that's all I need to know. You can talk about Suh's potential all you want but Kris Jenkins in his prime is one of the best DT's to play the game in recent memory. He's about all you could want in a DT(aside from the character flaws.)
