Vernon Gholston Anyone?????

yes...because he was drafted 6th overall. We could just draft another DE in the 6th round like we did with Hardy and get better production.

wow, did you know that had Hardy came out a year earlier he would've been a 1st round pick or 2nd round pick???? injuries and i think character hurt him. i agree with the person who said he's better than that Taylor the panthers have on their roster and Moore. it's not like we are saying start him or pay him a ton of money with 7 years on it, people are acting like this is a major risk to sign him, it's not.

Listen, NO one is saying the kid hasnt sucked because he has, BUT you can NOT and i repeat NOT say that a 3-4 defensive end is not much of a difference as a 4-3 end!!!! IF that was true, then Andre Carter would've fit in with the Redskins 3-4 defense.

there isnt much of a common denominator with a 3-4 and a 4-3 because Andre Carter failed in the 3-4 but looks good in the 4-3. i am not saying Gholston will be Carter because most likely he wont. i do think Carolina should sign Gholston, but only as a short term 2 year deal and hope he shows what made him a high pick. As for Mario Williams, i dont see him doing well in a 3-4 defense as an end. those great sacks he has had will go down. 3-4 ends arent known for getting alot of sacks, now maybe one will surprise, but it's rare.

He never played end in a 3-4. He played olb, which is the pass rusher in the 3-4. Thanks for playing though.

It's not a major risk, but it's a waste of money.

By the way, Eric Moore is no longer on the team.

However, you don't need to sign someone that hasn't proven a damn thing when you can draft a player that will produce better. The Panthers have DE's on their roster that have been drafted from all sorts of rounds and the best one wasn't even drafted in the first or second round. This misconception that only good players are in the first or second rounds really needs to stop.

1st Round- Tyler Brayton

2nd Round- Everette Brown

3rd Round- Charles Johnson

4th Round- Eric Norwood

6th Round- Greg Hardy

7th Round- Hilee Taylor

We're not wasting money on a guy that cannot even produce better than out 7th round draft pick. End of Discussion.

ok, it's not a waste of money if Gholston were to somehow come out of nowhere and produce, as for these ends you listed. It's not like Brown has been special and Norwood is very small for an end and Taylor isnt that good. i like Hardy and Johnson and think they should be the starters, unless they lose Johnson as a free agent. i think they should look into it, people are acting like signing him is a risk or a waste of time and it's not if you sign him at a minimum. if you sign them at a very cheap price then it's like wasting money on Hilee Taylor.

thanks for playing??? you did NOT see what position Gholston played last year did you??? he was moved to 3-4 end to see if he could produce there. At first he was a 3-4 linebacker, then when that failed they put him at 3-4 end.

if he's extremely cheap, why not?

bring him to camp. worst that happens is we cut him.

I don't know, it could totally be worse than that. What if he eats people? That would be terrible, and I have no idea what the salary cap implications of a player eating another player are. Probably bad.
