This article is old (3/19/2011) but I didn't see it posted here. I would really like D-Brown back in Charlotte. I liked the kids' effort/athleticism..and this also shows his loyalty and likeness for the cats.

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Derrick Brown and the Knicks head to Charlotte in one week, and it will be a bittersweet return to North Carolina. Brown said he's disappointed the Knicks claimed him off waivers since he is not playing after the Knicks derailed Charlotte's attempt to waive him and then re-sign him.

Brown is so frustrated he met for 15 minutes with team president Donnie Walsh at the Garden before Thursday night's game to discuss his future. According to a source, Walsh told Brown to hang in there and he still could get a chance, but has no plans to waive him. The Brown camp has inquired about Walsh looking into the situation, according to a source.

Brown was inactive last night.

"I don't want to comment on that too much," Brown said of his long talk with Walsh. "It was personal."

Brown, in his second year out of Xavier, has played in just two games for D'Antoni for a total of 16 minutes, both coming in garbage time. Walsh views him as an excellent prospect with great athleticism and rebounding potential.

Brown, selected with the 40th pick in the second round of the 2009 draft, got a strong recommendation from former Bobcats coach Larry Brown.

But D'Antoni and Walsh appear to disagree on Brown's readiness as the coach still won't play him despite the Knicks' struggles since the Carmelo Anthony trade, losing four of their last five. Brown is a free agent after the season, so he could just re-sign with Charlotte in the offseason after this bad experience in New York.

The master plan was for Brown to return to Charlotte, which waived him after Gerald Wallace trade with Portland with the notion he was going to clear waivers. The Bobcats had to clear roster room to legally make the Wallace deal, because they inherited three Portland role players, Joel Pryzbilla, Sean Marks and Dante Cunningham.

"I was going back to Charlotte," Brown told The Post last night before the Knicks' 99-95 loss to the Pistons. "They put me on waivers just to make the trade. You have good days and bad days. I'll try to be professional about it."

Brown is represented by agent Bill Duffy, whom the Knicks accommodated at the trade deadline by putting Anthony Randolph in the three-team Carmelo Anthony blockbuster. The Knicks got Corey Brewer in that segment and he was bought out after a week.

"I'm working hard, trying to get better," said Brown, who played 41 games for Charlotte. "When the opportunity comes, it comes."

D'Antoni seems to have made up his mind on the new players from Denver not named Chauncey Billups and Carmelo Anthony and none of them are in. Shelden Williams, Renaldo Balkman and Anthony Carter are not in the current rotation.

I never understood why Larry Brown stopped playing him, Silas didn't play him and now the Knicks won't play him. He seems to have a positive attitude, works hard, has great athleticism, plays within his game and can knock down the three pointer.

He seems like a guy who would get minutes in any system because he plays well as a complementary player. There must be some glaring weakness I'm not seeing.

Stay and develop in NY, Brown. You'll get more of an opportunity to play there than you would here.

Love the guy, and he's also another player that I believe Larry Brown had inadvertently broken. However, the staff in NY is forward-focused, and scoring fast.

If coached right he'll be a great second teamer. However, I'd rather stick with Cunningham/White. they're going to be a good ones.

    • But again, you can restock a defense through free agency much easier than offensive skill positions. Spend all our cap space on defense, take a true elite prospect who also happens to fit a position of need in T-Mac, and then use the rest of our picks on defense. Again, every season there’s a smattering of great DL, LB, and DB options in free agency, a Top 10 WR never hits free agency, ever.  The only way you get one is through the draft or giving up 1st round picks in a trade for one. If he’s there when we’re on the clock, he has to be the pick, he’s just that good.
    • It must be an early Christmas for JT O'Sullivan having Thielen back so he could put a coal in Thielen's stocking every chance he gets.  Honestly, the biggest surprise is not so much the anticipation. There were those moments here and there last year as well. It's that even that one positive quality he had seemingly vanished his first two games to where it looked like it was all but over, only for it to start coming back some until you get exclamation points all over this game film. And some of those throws were under a lot of duress, something I feel is something new. Finally, those deeper shots are starting to land. Not all of them, but enough that defenses may have to start respecting them. No guarantees whether this will end up as more of anomaly but I certainly hope it isn't. The Green Bay game was a sampler of what BY could be. Against KC, we got a meal. If we could start getting these meals regularly, we might actually have something to work with here.
