Another year of the Double M and Pickles

top dawg

OK, so you're not sold on Cameron's potential, or Blaine and Ryan's lack thereof? You've come to your senses about a guy named Vince who may not have the sense that he was born with. And, you have finally realized that guys like Billy, and our very own Brian, have taken the extended NFL bench tours for a reason. That leaves you with Matt and Jimmy.

Prepare yourself mentally, ladies and gents. This is how we roll. And I ain't talking about Benzes and Caddies, or even 20 something year old Yugos. This is how we roll...snake eyes.

Perhaps Newton ain't so bad after all. But who in the hell really knows?

I know I am in the minority here, but I still think Matt could be a starter. Could he be a great QB? Probably not. But if we started the season with him #1 on the depth chart, I wouldn't be overly concerned.

Unless we do the same B.S. we did last year where we yank him after a game and a half to put in our top-drafted scrub, then let the QB carousel spin.

And, herein lies the possible problem (and, perhaps, the probable problem).

"The more things change, the more things stay the same." This trite saying could end up being true with any number of scenarios that ends up becoming our reality.

The more I hear about Richardson, and reading between the lines of what Hurney and Rivera are saying, I sense that we are on the road to the same BS we've all grown accustomed to.

At least Rivera seems to recognize the fact that at some point we are going to have to get a franchise QB to compete in the league, much less the division. But Richardson and Hurney could turn Rivera's words into pure rhetoric.

Like I've been saying the draft will be very telling as to what direction the franchise is going as far as decision making goes. I am hoping that it's not conservative/settling for average and Rivera has a say so in who he wants. I must say it seems that way though early on He wanted a TE we got Shockey. Now lets see if they look to target our potential franchise QB sooner rather than later.

Another thing is why does everyone keep saying it will be Richardson/Hurney against Coach Rivera we don't know whats going on. What has been said it seems like Hurney/Rivera are on the same page we need a franchise QB it's our biggest need that has been there words this offseason...

I think the Shockey signing shows they are gonna let the new coach dictate things......let the new era have the pieces it wants and see what they can do. No point bringing in a new staff and then not letting them get the bodies they want for a new system.

One could argue he's shown a LOT more than Jimmy. Moore had flashes of being solid last year.

I'm basing this purely off speculation, and I really have no hard evidence to back it up, but I think Moore has a much better attitude (when it comes to being a QB) and is a much better leader than Jimmy, at least currently.

one wouldn't have to argue it.....Moore has shown a LOT more than Jimmy. Moore is a much better QB than Clausen and was as a rookie. That isn't a glowing endorsement of Moore though.

The fact that Matt Moore and Clausen (if they reach their "potential") could be average NFL starters should not make us content. There are 20 teams out of 32 that do not make the playoffs every season, and it is because they are stuck with average to above average QB's such as the two guys on our roster... i say above average, only because if you are a starter in the NFL, then you are roughly one of the top 32 out of 115 QB's.

Of the 12 teams that do make the playoffs every season, the majority are represented roughly by the top 8-10 QB's in the league with a few strong defensive teams thrown into the mix (such as the Jets). I will not refute that we would immensely strengthen our team if we choose Peterson, or Dareus, or Green... but we would set ourselves up to be a borderline playoff team in the future. An elite QB would push us into the playoffs and give us Super Bowl aspirations.

Taking a chance on a guy that could become one of the top 8 -10 QB's in the league is taking a gamble to win the Super Bowl instead of playing it safe to try and make the playoffs. For once... the Panthers would have a guy whom non-Panther fans would still buy his jersey. For once... the Panthers would have a guy that some dumbass would select in the first or second round of his fantasy football draft based strictly off of a man crush... For once... Fox or CBS might actually decide that the nation would be intrigued to watch an early season Panther game to see what the buzz is about.

I want to be good... but I'd rather be great.

Well, I guess because last year left a bad taste in our mouths. After Richie's involvement last season...Hurney was left standing (perhaps rightly so), and John Fox was left out to dry (again, probably rightly so). This tells me that poor mouthing Richie Rich either has his foot farther up Hurney's ass than I could have imagined, or that he is at least pulling on the strings. Rivera's the new man on the block joining a bad situation, in a position that he's ever had, HC. As such, he's a little light in the ass (metaphorically speaking) and can only push his weight around so far.

Didn't think of the Shockey angle, so perhaps you're right, though the whole "needing a TE thing" was BS to me, because we already had three. Didn't really see that as a huge need, but perhaps Rivera envisions actually incorporating the TE into our regular offense, so he got a guy who can do it all (and who has a ring, to boot). Perhaps there is room for a little more optimism.

I wasn't concerned last year when we went into the season with Moore as our #1. Once bitten, twice shy.

Jesus folks. You do realize MM could be much better than he has shown? We all agree Fox etal were morons right? Ok then with better coaching our QB's will improve somewhat right? the system its self will improve = better offensive play.

Look trade down, gather up a ton of picks and stock this team with talent overall. Take a QB to develop next year or the year after.

the only thing that can set this franchise back is reaching for a position esp QB.

What evidence do you have that Clausen's potential just makes him average?

Your evidence is merely "your opinion". there is a difference.

All this talk about how a great QB can put a team over the top and how not selecting Cam who could be a top QB in the league would be the Panthers playing it safe and settling for mediocrity instead of taking a chance at being great. What if the guys who are pro at scouting and judging players are not sold on Cam and do pick Peterson, Green, or someone else? What if they are right and they pick up a franchise QB in the later rounds, next years draft, or pickles does a complete 180 on us? And what if Cam flops? Are all you Cam lovers going to be completely outraged if Cam isn't selected? Are you going to still support the Panthers or you going to throw a hissy fit saying we just past on a chance to be great when you really are just talking out your behind and don't know if he will be great. We could of just made the best decision of the draft, passing on Cam.

No one knows crap about what is going to happen with these players.

I'm going to go wooh when we draft Cam, Peterson, Green, or whoever. Well I probably would be pissed if they draft a kicker number 1. Other then that, I'm going to welcome whoever they draft with open arms and trust the guys in control. Nothing else we can do. Getting all bent out of shape and saying they just cost the franchise a Super Bowl with one pick out of the draft is a little much.

That can go to the Cam haters as well. You know, what if they are in love with Cam and he is picked? What if they are right? Etc. hissy fit somewhere in there as well. You get the idea.
