The question many of you fail to ask or answer is, do they mean biggest impact and biggest need NOW (Ie trying to get back to the playoffs ASAP) or biggest impact/ biggest need that MIGHT work out a couple years down the road?

Cam newton will not do poo for this team for two years. Where as we can trade for a veteran, use FA (when it happens) and draft picks to get the team ready to get back to the playoffs quickly.

If I am Richardson WINNING puts butts in the seats and gets positive media attention better than any single draft pick and sustains fans coming to the stadium. I go the veteran route when I can and try to win ASAP

gantt has been saying all along that he doesn't think gabbert is truly in the picture...if they take a QB it will be newton

I think you can drive yourself crazy (and waste allot of time in the process) trying to read between the lines of what they say in these interviews... when you step back most of it is pretty generic stuff that doesn't suggest anything in particular except they want to draft guys that can help us win.

We're just gonna have to wait until 4/28 to see what happens...

True and I think it's time for us to take a risk on a talent like Cam.

I could get behind that idea. At least then we take a risk while aiming for the stars, opposed to risk while aiming at the neighbors house.

Cam for example has more talent than a long list of 1st round QBs taken in recent history.

As much as I believe we need a QB upgrade, I just can't see us taking a QB in this draft. We NEED a QB to start this year. We don't need 3 or 4 1-2 year QB's with no idea what they are doing leading this team. If we still had a veteran QB that knew this system here, I could see us def. taking a QB. What we don't have is a "student teacher" QB to help the development of another QB project. If Luck hadn't been the Golden Boy with 0 downside, I would have been hesitant about him too. I just can't see us stockpiling young QB's without some sort of movement or intingency "plan in action" first. Then again, I don't see us going into this season with what we have either (unless Moore will def be back and they are pretty sure the Moore/Clausen ship can be bailed out). Why wont we just admit we are screwed at the QB position for at least another year anyway? If we select Cam or Gabbert I'm afraid my and many other peoples expectations are going to be way too high. That is the main reason I feel more comfortable with what we have and a possible veteran journeyman. A lot less let-down for this season :nonod:

Not necessarily true. Most of the projections were made when the season was ended. Newton has worked very diligently to improve in the offseason and has made good strides. If he continues for the next couple of months and then impresses folks at training camp and during the preseason, it depends on who else we have to choose from. He could be right there with everyone else. We might have to run a condensed playbook but we did that with Moore in 2007 and Clausen last year. All of the QBs will be on a steep learning curve this year in a new system. I wouldn't assume he will sit that long at all.

Cam has talent and high potential those thinking he's just a raw high potential guy didn't watch him play last year imo.
