Gabbert compared to 1st round QB's

Recommended Posts

Today I was watching NFL Network. They were discussing comparissons between Gabbert and Stafford, Ryan, Flacco, Sanchez, Freeman.

Here were the results:

Stafford: Matt Stafford has the better arm strength, but they are about the same on accuracy, Gabbert has better athleticism.

Ryan: Matt Ryan was better coming out of college because of the pro style offense and more experience. They have a similar arm, and Gabbert has better athleticism.

Flacco: Gabbert has a better overall arm and is more athletic.

Sanchez: Gabbert has better arm strength, don't remember what they said on accuracy for this one, and of course, Gabbert has better athleticism.

Freeman: Gabbert has a similar arm, makes plays on the run like Freeman. Pretty even players.

They went on to compare how Gabbert's version of the spread is superior to Newton's version of the spread. Gabbert had to actually make reads, had a terrible offense built around him, so he wasn't as effective. Newton was one read and run. So everyone chose Gabbert over Newton.

I'm not a supporter of ether, I just thought this was an interesting segment. I know people say Gabbert doesn't have great arm strength, but that's a myth, his arm can make ALL the throws, and yes that statement comes from scouts who actually get paid to make these judgements.

But like I said, I don't want a QB, I'd much rather have Dareus, Peterson, or Green (If SS is gone).

Take it for what it's worth.

I saw those comments on walterfootball.com....I kinda wish the Panthers were leaning more towards Gabbert but I think they like Newton more. Casserly also said that with an upgrade at QB that we could rise very fast...we have solid talent on this team and I think he knows that.

Gabbert has as much talent as Newton did. If he was so talented then why were his stats so poor especially under pressure. He is a like a combine

Warrior. Great until they actually playing.

Since when were stats everything? Gabbert has the intangibles of a lot of 1st round QB's (via comparison). He's a little raw (like Newton) coming from a spread offense. But with the offense we already have in place, he could become a great QB.

what is this "tape" you speak of? Because I'm sure you don't have it. Youtube highlights is not "tape".

THIS...I'll admit what is floating around on YouTube of Gabbert isn't great but it's not much. Everyone watched newton last year but very few watched gabbert. Newton has a great arm and decent accuracy but to me Gabbert may be the safer pick and also may have a longer shelf life.

Terrible offense huh? then what do you call Michael Egnew?

Stop making excuses for him.

We all know Newton wasn't the sole reason for Auburn going to (especially winning) the championship game. It was the defense. This is a team sport, of course any QB's going to need help. Even Peyton Manning and Tom Brady would struggle without a good supporting cast.

Oh, by the way, there's no need to make excuses for a QB rated higher than Newton, and has similar comparisons to current franchise QB's. (Still don't like ether of them).

Newton has great potential, but he's also a higher risk. Newton has a great deep ball, but his accuracy isn't up to par. The most concern I have with him is his work ethic, if he comes in and gives it his all, and works hard to improve, then I'm sold on him.

Gabbert has the potential to be a solid guy you can build around. His potential is high, might not be as high as Newton's, but he's a much safer pick. He has all the intangibles to be great and he can make all the throws.

It's a matter of work ethic for both QB's. Who wants it more.

Ether way, if Rivera chooses one or the other I'm behind them 100%. Still want different players, but that's not my decision.

What intangibles?

Good under pressure? No. Made others better around him? No

Carried the team? No

Sorry but the reason the Panthers don't want him is because he lacks intangibles and isn't a winner. Otherwise his athleticism and high wonderlic and better system would make him the front runner. Do you have any other explanation for why we aren't even considering him that much?
