Report: Richardson “not sold” on Cam Newton, but will likely defer decision

I beat you all to the Newton train, yet you're sitting here whining about how I'm so against him...

I don't see anything unique about Luck that would make me think he is elite at this point, and definitely not worthy of all the hype... He has elements of Schaub, Ryan, etc., but he also reminds me a lot of John Skelton, and how he performed yesterday...

Newton is actually my favorite at this point, but I don't know about his maturity, or ability to lead... Plus, he looks like an alien or something, and I don't want Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones showing up and zapping him or some poo on a crucial 3rd down...

The trouble is, #1 overall, heck even #2 and #3, picks are hard to come by if you are a team such as the Panthers, and this year's draft doesn't (in my eyes) have anyone at any position that really would be worth it... but you have to pick someone...

How do you know?? Are you speculating. I thought he would never let people know what he was going to do? Hurney didn't operate that way. I have heard that several times.

Just another thing that has changed I suppose.

Do you think the Colts seriously explored other options in 1998?

This makes good sense. I am glad to see Jerry R. is beginning

to realize the negative ramifications drafting Newton will have . I am

also glad someone around here is thinking with their head and not their

heart. Newton will be useless for 2 to 3 years and will not help us.

Speaking of one of the Luck-hugging devils

"We're looking for someone that can be a topflight player and hopefully make us a better team," said Richardson, dismissing talk they might trade down. "And I have no doubt if you have the first pick, we're likely to do that."

Thay ONLY applies to Andrew Luck. No one else in the universe can be that guy except Andrew Luck.

But now you wanna trade down?

I actually preferred trading down back then too... I've stated numerous times that there isn't a guy in this draft that would go in the top 5 any other year, aside from maybe AJ Green...

Jordan Gross would probably be drafted before Newton or Gabbert if he were in the same draft...

Using Luck as an example of why to not draft a quarterback? This has never been seen before!

Who here knew who Luck was before ESPN and the rest of the talking heads put his name out there as the greatest thing since sliced bread?

This media lovefest with Newton is the exact same scenario. All the fans here, including those opposed to Newton fell for the Luck media hype hook line and sinker. But who's to say if Luck had declared and as time passed by teams and media put scrutiny on him, things wouldn't have come out about him? Nobody is squeaky clean.

You guys casting stones need to look in the mirror.

No luck bashing just speaking the truth no one knows if him or Newton will be as good as advertised. But if you have a chance at them you have to pull draft them considering our needs.

considering your take on them and your take on our needs, maybe...

considering my take on all that, AJ Green would be the pick... but at current, I think Dareus makes the most since to the Panthers...

That isn't a slight to Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert, or someone like Ricky Stanzi that nobody cares about... It is a simple concept that I don't really understand how some people can't get it...
