Report: Richardson “not sold” on Cam Newton, but will likely defer decision

Could we get Luck next year? Sure we could.

Do you count on it and make plans based on that? Lord no :nonod:

Now, you can look at next year's QB crop in general and, judging it to be deeper, factor that into your decision. But you can't pin your hopes on a specific player. That's a recipe for disaster.

I totally agree. Again I wasnt directing that comment towards you. See Mvp2011 and others like him

All the Haters who love KC Joyner bc of his critical examination of Cam Newton thinks there's a chance Luck isn't even the best QB in his conference!!

This plays into the mistake loads of people on this board make.

- Journalist X says something they agree with: "He's the greatest!"

- Journalist X says something they disagree with: "He's a tool!" :frown2:

Never fall into the trap of judging a reporter's worth based on whether he agrees with you or not. You can wind up looking silly if you do. Heck, people on this board were proclaiming Kiper as a God when he spoke glowingly about Newton. Then today he comes out and questions Newton's work ethic. See how that works?

There are good reporters and bad reporters. The way to pick who's who is to watch them over time and see who proves smarter. But even then, it doesn't mean you're going to agree with everything they say, and when that happens you're wise to respectfully disagree (they're human too) rather than just trash them completely.

watch the conference... he was asked about Luck specifically and said he would be the guy we picked...

as far as a prospects value to teams who want them, any number of players could be more valuable to certain teams than others... one could be so enamored with AJ Green that they'd want to do whatever it took to get him... Cam Newton is not the only player someone would trade up for, if that is what you are trying to say...

He never said at the press conference he was taking Luck?!?!? That was leaked by a source. And by the logic of the Haters right now you would have HAD to say "derp only people who really know are Hurney, Rivera, and Richardson and theys ain't talking11!1! Tis only speculative derp!!!1!"

Or maybe that was a smokescreen. Many hater think Clausen or Moore deserve a nother chance because "last year teh coaching was bad!!1!! No QB had a chance with poo line and poo receivers!!1!1. Cept Luck because he teh special. "

So maybe we leaked it to trade back since Clausen/Moore are really franchise QBs right? All they need is better coaching and a line right? If that is true we don't need Luck either.

Or...or the "we need someone to be impact player from day 1". Well considering no QB has EVER really done that this line of thinking excludes Luck as well.

So basically if all the stupid sh#t people have said to try to convince themselves that Cam isn't a possible pick for #1 is really true; well then they would have been true about Luck as well, right??

Oh yeah I forgot "Luck is teh bestest of all time!!!1!1!"

JR wanted the hell out of Luck and he said so, but Luck also heard this and came to the conclusion of going back to school:confused:. I leave the rest for the huddle to figure out

It's been clarified (repeatedly) that Luck's decision to stay in school had nothing whatsoever to do with the Panthers. There were reports questioning whether he'd go to the Bengals or Bills, but never Carolina, and he and his family clarified that they're acquainted with (and like) Jerry Richardson.

Heck, it'd be silly for any quarterback that expects to be taken number one to think he isn't going to a bad team.

I try not to base my opinion on people I agree with. I try to study, read all opinions, and then form my own.

Personally I think all these guys do a good job. It isn't easy and I don't form favorites. I just read everything I can gather and try to take everything into account.

I understand but I have seen posters (not saying you) saying that we should go defense this year in order to get Luck next year. That is not guaranteed

If they say "in order to get luck" then yeah, that's dumb. But I say go Dareus or Peterson wether we get Luck or not next year because it's the best pick this year. I'm not sold on Green as long as Smith is staying, if we trade him before the draft (not looking like that will be possible unless a miracle happens in next 3 weeks) then yeah, Green could be #1.

As of now, its Dareus or Peterson and I'm a happy camper!

True but he could be like they say another "Manning" and want this biggest market or maybe he knew Carolina didnt want Harbaugh and that had something to do with it. He also got advice from Peyton Manning who doesn't like the Panther's owner that much. To me it was very dumb for Jerry to even mention the pick that early. Of course he would say the panthers had nothing to do with decision, wouldn't you?

Actually, he did. If you saw the full unedited conference, it was there.

No he didn't you guys are pulling a hugger move as translating what he said to what you want to hear. He said, "I don't see us trading down in this particular case." That can mean a lot of things but you guys say "see he talk abouta da Luck!!!1 (I don't know why I made you Italian there )" Find me one report where a quote is attributed to Richardson saying we were taking Luck. An actual cited quote from a legit reporter.
