Report: Richardson “not sold” on Cam Newton, but will likely defer decision

considering your take on them and your take on our needs, maybe...

considering my take on all that, AJ Green would be the pick... but at current, I think Dareus makes the most since to the Panthers...

That isn't a slight to Cam Newton or Blaine Gabber, or someone like Ricky Stanzi that nobody cares about... It is a simple concept that I don't really understand how some people can't get it...

Agreed on the last. It should be a fairly simple thing to get. The notion that people that don't want Newton do so out of hate is just stupid.

Disagree on A J Green. I'd prefer Peterson or Dareus. Just trying to decide whose issues make me less nervous.

I'll give you that Green is probably the overall BPA. I'm just not in favor of taking a receiver.

Actually they were pretty serious about Ryan Leaf for a while.

Speculated. Polian would tell you now it was Manning all the way.

Story was that the Panthers offered their entire draft for the #1 in order to take Manning. That's never really been verified though.

In prior years it was common to see teams start talking contract with the number one pick before the draft. More than one had an agreement in place already before turning in the card.

More recently, some teams began contract talks with three or four players. That way they could keep their options open.

I have little doubt that if Luck had come out, and the CBA thing weren't happening, he'd have had a contract in place well ahead of time (providing they could agree to terms).

I actually preferred trading down back then too... I've stated numerous times that there isn't a guy in this draft that would go in the top 5 any other year, aside from maybe AJ Green...

Jordan Gross would probably be drafted before Newton or Gabbert if he were in the same draft...

I don't know about that.....maybe you should go back and look at the top 5 picks in some of the recent drafts.

I mean that would be claiming Mark Sanchez or a Gaines Adams looked better heading into the draft than players this year. This class is actually pretty decent.....there just isn't anyone to jump as a clear #1. It is a little QB weak and in some other areas but I think you are easily overstating things.

All the fans here, including those opposed to Newton fell for the Luck media hype hook line and sinker.

There were about 3 of us who didnt buy it. Myself, Squirrel, and the poster Ohio were the only ones on this board with the guts to say they didnt buy the hype with Luck. Everyone else went along for the ride and didnt need to see much of him to know he's the guy. 98% of the people opposed to us drafting Cam are people who wanted us to draft Luck. Rayzor is the only guy I know who wanted Luck but said from day 1, if not him Newt is the guy, and he stuck by that when Luck went back to school. It was only after he went back to school that people started entertaining the idea of a corner, a WR, or DT #1 overall. So this entire board at one point or another lobbied for a QB. Now its "illogical" to want to draft a QB. LOL. Id have more respect for those wanting those guys if it didnt just happen after Luck. In fact, this offseason on this board is all about how those hurt by Luck rejecting us have coped and dealt with it.

Read the post I linked from myself... I clearly said that Newton was the guy I liked the most and that Luck reminded me of Skelton at times...

I trolled the hell out of the BLJS (even calling Dpantherman the #1 at the time) then like I am doing the BNJS now...

I have no doubt either. My point was how some of the arguments have changed and how some of our reactions have changed to news stories or leaks now as compared to January.

As a matter of fact that is where the smokescreen and now speculation jokes have all derived from.

what's wrong with wanting luck, if he was considered to be one of the best QB prospects in the last decade, then when he didn't enter the draft, decide to select another position? If someone doesn't believe any QB in this draft is worth the #1, it would be stupid to draft any QB at #1 so therefore it is the best decision to select another position.

just like last year, if bradford had of decided not to be in the draft, would any other QB really have been worthy of the #1 overall?

there is absolutely nothing wrong with being on board with luck as the #1 and then moving to another position since he's no longer available. your point of view of those of us who oppose cam is completely wrong.

I beat you all to the Newton train, yet you're sitting here whining about how I'm so against him...

LOL! you call that being on his train? you only said he was your favorite "at this point" then went on to talk about his negatives, his maturity and ability to lead, and even made fun of how he looks.

I wouldn't call that a ringing endorsement. Don't act like you were riding his jock back in December. At best, you were only fondling his sack.

I'm such a hugger I was ok with getting Newton or Luck back when we were in the hunt to get the #1 pick...I've seen how our team has been dominated by franchise QB's and it's time we get ours.

Btw.since ol JR is readin the emails now a days..why doesn't someone just ask him if he is not sold on Newton?
