Now that it's almost certain Cam will be the pick, what are your thoughts?

lol at nobody correctly remembering what pick we had that year and trying to make the argument about it...

Doesn't matter exactly what pick. It was in the late 20's, for sure, and Williams was the best RB left on the board. This is not hard.

You're assuming Cam is the best prospect overall on our board... I argue that is not the case...

You're betting on 1:600 or so odds... I'm betting at 1:1 odds...

I just said that I'm still skeptical about Cam being the pick, so I'm not betting on anything.

Hell, all I ask is that our new HC and his staff has more influence on this draft than Fox had on the last one. As long as Rivera is getting the players that fit what he wants to do, then I'll be happy.

Reasons I'd be ok with us taking Cam:

1. he is a physical specimen

2. potential is off the charts

3. exciting to watch

4. it might inject some excitement into the fanbase

5. He has a nice smile

6. he reminds me of shrek

7. KT can't ever call JR or Hurney or the collective Panther fan base racist ever again because our starting QB would be black and our head coach would be latino

I'd totally be cool with Cam Newton as the pick... He can inject some immediate excitement into our offense that has lacked it since its inception... I think he will be a good football player and will have the intangibles to make our team succeed...

I still think Dareus or Green will be the pick, mainly because QB carries more risk and responsibility, and I think Rivera/Hurney will want to fix the weakest part of the defense or get a valid backup plan for Smitty before they do anything else...

I'd still, at this point, wager that we don't draft a QB period, and move forward with Moore/Clausen getting a shot in the new system...

We need our own identity and not someone else's throwaway. IMO, us taking a first round QB is very important to establishing some sort of identity for ourselves. At some point we have to DEVELOP the most important position on the football field effectively. Right now, thats our biggest hurdle as a franchise IMO. We have never done it.

May be the truest thing you have said that I have read. I agree 100% and I am warming up more to Cam, but I still don't believe he is the best player. If we pick him, I hope he proves to be.

I know the last 3 are kinda jokes, but the first four are spot on. Im comfortable picking him if RR/MH are. I would wonder how long they would think it takes him to be ready to start, at this point, right now?

I'm an anti- Newton Bills fan that has been reading the board to see where you guys are leaning... and have come to like this board.

But i think if you guys get Newton... it's going to be up to your offensive coordinator and QB coach to be creative and use his skills wisely. Don't try and fit him into your offense... work the offense to his abilities. If the running game is strong... do a lot of playaction off of it... cut the field in half so he doesn't have to read the whole field at first. Similar to what Titans did with Young.

I agree. My biggest concern with him though is how coachible is he?He is a bit of a prima donna for me but as we say in the south the "proof is in the puddin" This is board divided when it comes to Cam....but with the huge upside versus the huge bust potential it should be expected.

Apparently through the eyes of a whole lot of people. Again, even the most anti-Cam folks out there have to admit he's the most likely pick at this point.

All of the beat writers are saying so; even Yas, who insisted we'd take a DL for over a month before suddenly changing his tune. I know the stock response to that will be "oh, it's just media hype" but what all of you are forgetting is that this is a MUCH different situation we're in than usual. They've been wrong a LOT when projecting our picks over the years (TE every year in the 1st) but this year we have the 1st pick and it's impossible for any GM to keep secret who we're looking at when there are only a handful of viable options. Plus, the media is watching our every move, something that's not true in the middle of the round.

Smokescreen? Please. This would be the most hard-headed and far-reaching smokescreen of all time by FAR. And in a year where there's zero chance anyone trade up with us. Hurney would never run a smokescreen and show so much attention to a player we weren't considering while not even bothering to show much attention at all to other options.

How many times have we brought Dareus in for a workout? His pro day; that's it. We've had 3 now with Cam after this week's, 4 if you count his combine workout, not to mention several dinners/meetings/etc. We've barely shown any interest in Peterson, Dareus, & Green, and while I'm sure we really like all three of those guys, it's common knowledge in the NFL that if you need a QB and are picking 1st, you have to take that risk. Hurney is no fool; he knows both he & Rivera's jobs depend on solidifying the QB position. Without one, all the talent in the world at every other position is meaningless.

I cannot WAIT until we take Cam just to see the reactions of all you folks who are seemingly in denial about all this. I get that you don't want him, but to deny our interest in him - or his status as the clear-cut favorite at this point - is just setting yourself up for massive disappointment when we actually do take him.

When did I say that?

See here's your problem, you assume that everyone who is sceptical is a stubborn hater. I challenge you to find a single post that I've posted where I've expressed hatred for the guy. Look at what Cam's biggest question marks are, no poo we bring him in for interviews. These aren't things you can just find out on tape. Honestly, stop beating your chest. I'm not screaming 'smokescreen', I'm screaming 'due diligence' and agnosticism. Your emotion has confounded your logic.
