Draft Possibilities and Dewayne Robertson

I guess this is my version of odds and ends... Anyway, I saw that Dewayne Robertson was released from the Broncos yesterday, who IIRC was acquired through a trade just this last off-season. The GM said it was because one player shouldn't count that much against the cap when they need to rebuild. Well, I remember when this guy came out and they were amazed with his athleticism for a guy his size (he ran a 4.8 40 yard dash at the combine at 324 lbs.). I just read an article about how he fits perfectly as a 'one-gap' DT in a 4-3 defense. And being that we are so enamored with the 4-3 and only relying on pressure from the 4-3, I think he and Damione Lewis could be quite a duo from the inside and create some pressure. Anyone else interested in picking him up? I think we could get him for a good price too because he's coming off one-year with a team and a release after being traded.

As far as the draft goes... Things are looking good for us re-signing Gross, which would enable us to tag Pep and trade him for compensation. Well, I looked at the draft order and it appears there are several teams that run a 3-4 in the top 15 that would probably be interested in getting Pep. The reason I would target someone in the Top 15 is because of the player I think we need to draft to replace Pep... Brian Orakpo, DE from Texas. He is projected to go Top 15. Possible teams that I think we could reasonably trade with are:

#5-Cleveland

#7-Oakland - (there is talk that they are considering switching to a 3-4, and you know Al Davis would salivate over Pep and probably start him at WR too)

#9-Green Bay - Switching to 3-4 and a possible plus for Pep that Trgo is their DL coach, so they already have some kind of bond.

#10-San Francisco - 3-4 Defense, I think Mike Singletary would have fun with Pep in his defense.

#15-Houston - For obvious-already mentioned reasons.

Dewayne Robertson has no knees left. Both of his knees are shot. He shouldn't even be playing anymore.

So what that just means we get a solid backup for cheap. He can take 25-30% of the snaps when Kemo needs a break. I like the idea personally if we can get him at a good price. I don't want to have to bring in a rook, groom him for 3-4 years, and wait on production. We need someone who can come in and take some pressure off of our two starters and Robertson could be the best option in FA. Either Robertson, Rocky Bernard, Jovan Haye (ironic right?), or another seasoned vet should come in. Using another draft pick on a DT is not what I want would advise...

You wasted your chance for like 5 posts by making 1 run on post.

Lemme get this straight Kurb... Are you saying I would have gotten 5 responses in this thread, had it not been for my original post being a run-on?

C'mon Kurb... I spend all day in school writing structured sentences and paragraphs, this is where I can let myself go man. I had been doing pretty well, I just got comfortable.

exactly he couldn't even pass his physicals last season, but they kept him on the team for some reason or another.

Brett Favre failed his physical after being traded to Green Bay back in '91 or '92, so they aren't always deal breakers. In the article I read, he said he has had the knee issue since college and it has never caused him to miss a game. The only games he missed while with the Jets were for other injuries. So, I don't think the knees are a real issue.
