The Charlotte Lockout.....that's a good one. I read the first page of this thread so pardon me if someone brought up this already. Kevin Johnson, former NBA player, and now the mayor of Sacramento said that this is the last season for the Kings in Sactown. Also the Kings have just TMed the rights to the name Royals for when they move to Anaheim. Sorry to bust up the Royalist crowd.

I sent a question into Jordan's mailbag on the Bobcats site about a week ago about a name change. We should all do it, to get the name changed. But here are some name ideas.

Charlotte Moccasins.

Charlotte Airborne (it would also honor Ft. Bragg/ 82nd.)

Charlotte Commanders

Charlotte Boomslang (very deadly snake in africa)

I think Princesses would fit our fanbase better though.

When I think of the "Charlotte Bobcats," I think of an area still bitter at Shinn, an owner that cared more about his own enterprise than making a team competitive and getting involved in the community, zero star power, lottery picks, and draft busts.

When I think of the "Charlotte Hornets," I think of a basketball team that was at one time THE sports ticket in the Carolinas, a franchise that sold out 358 consecutive games in a 24000 seat arena. The first home game in franchise history was a 40 point blowout loss that ended in a standing ovation. While the talent wasn't championship-caliber, it was a young, competitive group that reached the playoffs around the late 90s, early 00s consistently.

The owner I'm referring to Bob Johnson. The team is named after a guy that never seemed to care about fielding a competitive basketball team or trying to drum up support in the Charlotte area. Michael Jordan's no Jerry Buss, but at least he's trying to build a winning team.

I've been sittin through 7.5 hours of class (tuesdays/thursdays suck) and to pass the time I made some very generic, basic, paint program level designs of what a "Charlotte Flight" logo would look like..just for fun. The first is using the current bobcats colors, as close as i could get them. The second is a different idea I had. Take NC State Red, Duke Blue and Carolina Blue and incorporate them into the pro team of the carolinas. Take the rich college tradition and infuse some of that passion into the NBA team.

I know this may step on some toes of UNCC, UNCW, UNCA, UNCG, Davidson, Wake Forest, Clemson, South Carolina, CofC, etc fans, but lets be honest. The three most successful programs have been the triangle members.

Any thoughts? Just having some fun.

I have liked the Charlotte or Carolina Flight from the beginning. Do you all remember The issue of the Charlotte Observer where you got to draw the logo you wanted for the new team and mail it in? My brother and I decided to go with the Charlotte Flight and make the colors black orange and blue. If I remember there were 3 final ones you could pick, and these were the ones chosen.
