Source? (Not being sracastic)

Hurney's interview on WFNZ transcript on the page I linked thanks to mav1234

I went back and re-read the transcript I guess he didn't really say that clearly but that is what I took from it. I could be wrong though. Still don't think it's the kind of thing that you allude to if you are getting reasonable offers. :(

So if we count Wilkerson out, who do you think will be available in the 3rd? possibly Marvin Austin?

Marvin may be there but i seriously doubt he will. Drake Nevis, Kenrick Ellis are 2 i can think of off the top of my head with Nevis being more of a 3 tech but Ellis can play any were along the line.but since he is huge he will more inlikely play the NT.

So you would have us basically waste the 1st pick of the draft on a QB who in other drafts wouldn't be a top 20 contender? You have to approach it as best player available. yes we have holes, but we also spent multiple draft picks last year on QBs. To draft a QB with the first pick in this draft is the equivelant of giving up on everything we worked to accomplish. If your thinking there is a game changing QB in this draft you are sadly mistaken. Hell if Clausen was available in this draft, he would be ranked above every other QB.

You have to take last season for what it was, a complete meltdown by a front office preparing for a lock out. The QB's were not ready, prepared, or properly utilized. We have 3 young QB's on the roster, lets see how they fit into a new system befor we waste the best pick in the draft on a 2nd round ability player. Peterson, Green, or Darius should be our pick. If we want to gamble on a QB, lets make it late where it will not completely devalue our draft picks.

Wasting the first pick on a QB is your opinion. Clausen ranked above Cam/Gabby? Not on my board. I threw my remote at the t.v. when we picked him. I wouldn't have taken him in the sixth. (I Had Pike rated higher than him)

I will also remind you that Cam lit up PP7 when they played. He is also a high potential guy that will need to be coached up and possibly switched to Safety.

Darius would not be the #1 DT in last years draft either and could easily have fell to the second round being far out-shined by Suh and McCoy.

The best WR prospect of the decade IMO (judging by college) went late in the first last year.

There is no clear cut #1 they are all a reach. But we need a QB and a DT but DT's don't help the worst offense in the league; also Dt is deep this year and talent can be had in the 3rd and in FA. QB's after the first round have a ridiculously high failure rate. THAT is a waste of a pick. If we had't done it twice last year we may not need a DT so badly now. (purely speculation but realistic IMO)

I take it your on the Cam express? If we do draft him, trust me when I say I will be the biggest Newton fan, but as of now, the pick just doesn't feel as safe as others. my worst fear is that we draft a #1 bust.

Im not sold on Cam or Gabby. But Im trusting our FO to make the right decision.

Cam scares me because he made almost 0 reads in college. (that I watched anyway)I also fear a hold out with him if there is no rookie wage cap. Gabby has happy feet but at least he can throw the ball over the head of a 5 year old, so there's an instant upgrade.

Whatever QB we get is going to take a year or two to get going but I would like to get the ball rolling now. Whoever we take i'll be on-board also I just hope we end up with a Franchise QB.

Since hardly anyone goes to the Draft forum, here was the brief version of mine:

1. Marcell Dareus, DT

3A. Marcus Cannon, OL

3B. Colin McCarthy, LB

4. Edmund Gates, WR

5. Ross Homan, LB

6A. Ugo Chinasa, DE

6B. Weslye Saunders, TE

7. Derek Hall, OL

You feel the need for 2 LB's and no secondary help? Just curious as to why

JoAT is afraid of QB's, apparently. Maybe we can just run the wildcat every down and play defense? While we're at it, let's fire Rivera and beg Fox to come back, and if he won't, hire Davidson as head coach with Dan Henning as his O.C.

Or, you know, maybe use some voodoo to bring Paul Brown back from the dead since that's the last era in which that style of football actually won championships.

If it isn't clear to everyone that we're going QB with this pick by now then there are some people in serious denial. We're taking a QB #1 and that QB will be Cam Newton. Say it out loud. Sunk in yet?

For many of the same reasons I wanted one first last year...

Davis is coming back from another major injury, Anderson is OKAY but not a guy that scares anyone on the other side of the ball, and aside from Connor, we don't really have all that great of depth behind those guys and Beason...

I think Rivera will be allowed to go heavy on the defensive side, especially with a couple young LBs that he can groom into studs in a hybrid 3-4/4-3/zone system... McCarthy is basically Dan Morgan without the injury bug, and Homan will be a good pro with the potential to be great...

With those 2 LBs, that DT, and that DE, we instantly upgrade both our passing and rush defense...

I had a CB or two that I would like to snag if they were available, but the way my mock worked out they weren't the BPA or weren't available when we were on the clock...

In my opinion Dareus is a MUCH better prospect than McCoy. Suh was easily the best DT prospect to come out in a long time, but Dareus woulda gone #3 behind Suh.

The best WR prospect of the decade IMO (judging by college) went late in the first last year.

Even last year people were saying AJ Green was a better prospect than Dez Bryant (I'm assuming that's who you're talking about). I still agree with that opinion.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
