Brush it off all you want but the kid has had more then a shaky past. I don't need a choir boy but I would much rather have someone I'm not worried about waking up and reading they were arrested' date=' especially a guy who's the face of your franchise....[/quote']

The kid has had his past scoured by scouts, media chumps and analysts of all sorts. They have found enough stuff to fill out like two sentences.

Seriously, in all that digging, only a handful of bad things, things that happened years ago.

Personally, as long as there's not a history of violence or drug abuse, I don't care about a players past.

Then he got poor legal advice. If he was with his attorney when the laptop got ditched he obviously took the advice he was given good or bad. It was the wrong thing to do but wasn't without apparently his lawyer advising him.

Seriously, what college kid doesn't have the common sense to know he shouldn't toss a stolen laptop out a window when he's already been busted. I don't give a poo what the lawyer said or didn't say, sometimes your brain has to take over....

I've not seen one person in this forum say they didn't want Newton because he is black.

I don't want him because of all the nut huggers calling people racist if they want the Panthers to draft someone else. I can only imagine what it will be like if he has a bad game. Will a white reporter be able to talk about it? At this point I'd prefer this circus went to another city.

So Jamarcus Russell was a guy you would have drafted then?? Grats to you....

Are blacks as racially biased against picking Blaine as some whites are against picking Cameron?

Personally I think both will be out of the league in 3 years.

Depends. Are they being petty? Are they claiming that Blaine smells funny, or has a 6th toe, or some other malarkey that has no bearing? Similar to Cam Newton's "Fake Smile".

This is one of several reasons (including his playing ability) I don't want him....

Did Tom Brady have character concerns...does he now' date=' Manning, Rivers, Freeman I could go on. You can't just point out a couple of examples that support your point and say that's the be all and end all. Truth is the vast majority of players that don't get in trouble in college continue that trend later in life. Are there exceptions, of course but there are also of plenty of examples of guys who fuged up in college and continued to fug up in the NFL...[/quote']

You can hardly point out guys who had no trouble in college or the pros as evidence of anything. What you are saying is that a guy who has some trouble in college will have problems in the pros. I pointed out several guys who had few if any problems in college who screwed up royally in the pros. My point is that there is no way to tell what is going to happen for most guys. Some come in and the NFl corrupts them. Others learn from their mistakes and straighten up. Again there is no reason to suggest that he will screw up in the pros and be an embarassment. Any more than we knew that Jarrett would screw up and have mutil DWIs.

It's away to say things without directly saying how you really truly feel " He's Russell/V.Young/Young Vick, I don't wanna worry about him being in strip clubs fighting etc, or getting arrested when I wake up the nexts day" I've seen that statement made on here before.

Like I have already stated you're right there's no way to know for certain who will and wont get into trouble once they get to the NFL but is it so far fetched to say that a guy who has had troubles in the past is more likely to have them in the future then a guy who has had a clean past.....

Saying there is racial bias in evaluating a QB is much different then calling someone a racist.

And you might not like the perceived circus but if he wins you a superbowl you will become the head circus clown in .00001 second.

As will all of us. :)

No. Russell, while having a great skill set, showed up to the combine overweight, the problem with him seemed to be laziness and just not caring.

Do you believe that Newton is lazy?

It has nothing to do with Russell, Young or Vick, it has to do with Cam. He's had his own legal and non legal troubles and in my opinion they are severe enough that they should raise some red flags. Is he a freakish athlete? Of course. Can he be great? Absolutely. But it's my opinion that his past combined with my belief that he will never become an elite QB are enough that I wouldn't draft him. Do I fully expect him to be drafted by the Panthers #1 overall. Absolutely. Will I be in BOA at the home opener wearing a Newton jersey if he is? You bet. For you, or anyone else to trash my (or anyone elses) opinion and suggest I have a racial bias looks really foolish....

It depends of the guy and what he says and thinks about what he did. When I worked with juevenile delinquents as a psychologist it was sometimes easy to tell the guys who would try and stay out of trouble from those that wouldn't. The guys who stayed out of trouble where the ones after they got caught who realized it was stupid and they needed to make a change. The ones who kept it up were the ones who were upset they got caught not concerned about breaking the law. That is what the interviews are for. If the Panthers are convinced he is sincere and a changed man, there is every reason to believe they will be right. If they don't believe him then they won't pick him.
