Some Cheese Head wrote "An Open Letter To Julius Peppers"

He would have a choice in that if they tag to trade, the player has to agree to a new deal with the new team first. No team will take Pep in trade on a 1 year FT #. So if he hates the thought of a team, he can simply choose not to agree to a LT deal with that team.

I keep saying this, and I don't think that anyone is getting it.

Thanks for making it very clear to some of the others.

I am starting to think the same way. We are in a very bad negotiating spot, and everyone knows this.

The only thing that we have going for us, is a very bad D line draft class coming out this year. We will need a team that thinks that they are one "piece" from being great, and for Pep to think that too.

This board will go nuts when we get a 2nd for him.

I am not so sure we would not keep him on the books for that amount. He counted nearly that much against the cap this year.

It would not be the best scenario, but I could see the Panthers keeping him before they would give him away in a firesale.

Fuzz...oops... I missed where you said it..DOH! :P

If anyone has the NFL channel, it may be worth your time to listen to Willie McGinest talk a little about what would be involved with Pep's moving to a 3-4 (though he also isn't sure if Pep wants to be a DE or an OLB). This is the last repeat of yesterday's NFLTA right now on the NFL channel. It's about halfway through or a little more when Willie Mac talks about it.

Not gonna happen.

We can't keep Pep on the books for 16million next year and the performance he is bound to give.

Teams know this.

I'm really doubting we get a 1st round pick at all for him to be honest.

You may be right. Hope you aren't. but I acknowledge you could be.

I'm still not discounting the fact that there are brain-challenged people with significant jobs in certain front offices.

You should check out the PFW scouting report on him (posted).

I think we'll a first. Pep doesn't have all the cards here. If he turns down a trade, then we can force him to play with us next year for the $16 million. And I don't think he'll tank it, since he would be a FA again at the end of next season.

That said...we would have trouble squeezing 16 million under the cap, especially with the new Gross deal.

his changing positions, his lack of effort off and on, his mysterious illness, his wanting out, his wanting to see "other" things, and his apparent lack of leadership ability are all nickles and dimes that will be used against him in any negotiation.

Those of you who see him as clear cut round one trade bait are mistaken.

Though its not the best scenario, he wil be tagged, if he does not agree to a trade fine, he plays here or does not get paid.

Julius isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer; but, if he choses to sit and not play for $17 million so be it, a stupid man turns down $17 million sure thing in a league were there are no guaranteed contracts; in short, do what other teams do, reduce his pay for each game not played and practice missed.

It is not the optimum solution and I think we all want a win/win; but, the panthers are not obligated to give him away per the CBA, no matter how much he suddenly talks

I think we are going to see a run on him. Too many teams want elite potential on the defensive line. Not saying it's been delivered per se, but the potential is there and coaches have egos too. Just like we thought David Carr was not handled right in Houston and we will be able to "fix" him teams forget about the wanting to leave issues and will pony up at the chance to get Peppers, especially after a 14 sack year.

Just a feeling, we probably going to see soon. Definitely don't think there will be any two 1st rounders in our future, but I could see a deal like KC got last year...

I agree....I think that there is going to be a much bigger demand for Pep than some think around here. Contrary to popular belief, Marty Hurney and John Fox are not stupid.....they are going to get good value for Peppers. At least a first rounder this year, and probably a first and more....
