I'm just not interested in watching someone try and run a gimmick offense in the NFL. I went back last night and watched youtube highlights of Cam... and there is no way he's going to have those running holes in the NFL.

Gabbert has plenty of mobility... and Buffalo basically ran a spread offense last year with Fitzpatrick. They threw 65% of the time out of the gun with 4 or 5 WR's. I think Gabbert would have a seemless transition where the offense would have to be redesigned for Newton...

I think Newton would have to be in an offense similar to what the Titans ran. Strong running game with a lot of bootlegs so he doesn't have to read the entire field.

I talked to an inside source earlier this evening and well, he is about 90% sure the Panthers are taking Newton. He isn't the highest player on their board but apparently they have pretty much fallen in love with him.

In my three years of knowing him he has been wrong about only one thing the Panthers have done, and no, this isn't some bull poo "My cat is the inside source."

I'm starting to lean more and more towards drafting Cam with the #1 pick should the team be unable to trade down. Throughout the season I had chastised people who were cheering for more losses in order to draft Andrew Luck when there was no guarantee of his declaration for the draft.

Fast forward to now, and there's a possibility of there not even being football this year. Why wait on a college QB to come out when he might stay yet another year, and there's no guarantee that the team would be able to trade up to take him.

Cam Newton is available now. There is tremendous potential, and the #1 pick is not something that happens often (hopefully). As said before, DT is deep. Cam being Jimmy's competition could make things very, very interesting. If the coaching staff here is willing to take him, then I trust their judgment. Why wait for somebody who might not even declare next season?

As harsh as I've been on Moore as a starting QB long-term, I think he may be our best bet this year as a starter. He can hold it down until Cam is ready. If they feel like Cam can come in mid-season the way Freeman did and get similar results, so be it. Or do like The Golden Calf of Bristol did and give him 3-4 games at the end of the season to get his feet wet.

But a day-one starter? I don't think that'd be in his/our long-term best interest.

I hate dragging 2010 back up but I am not sold that ANY QB would have had a chance with the OC we had. I think Moore would be fine in Chuds system and he and Clausen should battle it out with Newton in Study mode. If we choose Newton he needs to be brought along slowly until the staff feels he is ready to play.

He HAS to be the pick...well him or Gabbert. You don't have the season we had last year and go the safe route with a DT who has solid starter (but nothing special) written all over him. This organization needs some life pumped back into the fanbase...and what better way than to bring in a highly talented QB.
