After Newton, there's little consensus on QB draft class

I agree 100% with this comment..

"There are also some who think that in the end, TCU's Andy Dalton could be better than a number of players who might be picked before him."

I think he has the ability to be the best in the entire class if developed right. I have said for a long time, pick up a 2nd with our trade down and take him and develop him.

.......If we need to, we can trade up next year. It's not like we'll be stuck at #6 and have no chance of going anywhere and getting anyone good. Plenty of great quarterbacks in this league have been taken before that, and plenty of teams have shown you can trade up to snag a player if needed.

You say drafting Cam is a "huge" risk, but are ok with trading away a bunch of future high picks to move up in a draft. Trading what is necessary to move up in a draft, escpecially when QB is the target, is very costly and a much bigger risk and gamble in my opinion.

I'd rather not trade away future picks, but if there is a guy there they really like, they'll do it.

Keep in mind, I'm not saying "pass on Cam Newton even if you really like him!", I'm just saying that if you aren't sure about him, don't take him (or any QB). Do not reach for the #1 is all I'm saying. There are other paths to greatness, as other teams have shown.

I can agree with that.... and why I am at least VERY happy this time around the organization is seriously looking into and considering drafting a QB. It is my opinion they are going to pick one IF they are convinced.

Time will tell

I hate to think about having another terrible year. But say we draft Cam or Gabbert. Just for typing sake I will say Cam. Clausen starts the season at QB but stinks. We get out the gate 0-5. Rivera announces we are going to Cam. He is better than advertised, we win two straight, and he looks awesome in two starts. In nis 3rd start he has an injury that forces him to sit the remainder of the season (should have slid ). But nothing too serious. We lose our remaining gmaes and go 2-14 again and have the number one pick again.

I know some numbskulls would say right here "WE HAVE TO TAKE LUCK HE TEH GREATEST!!" Realistically we won't.

But if we end up with the top pick next year and we have our QB of the future in place another team would ship MASSIVE amounts of draft picks to acquire Andrew Luck. We would own the next two drafts.

Just a hypothetical.

That's all well and good, but what's guaranteeing that this team is going to be in a drafting position to grab one of these good QB's?

Is it due to the lockout, that the draft position stays the same? Or what?

No matter what happens we will be in a position to draft

in the top 5 next year. We will be in a better position to

get the guy we really want, LUCK.
