1999

Was the year that 5 QB's were taken in the 1st round. Only one of them panned out with any success. Donavan McNabb.

The other 4, Tim Couch 1st, Akili Smith (one year wonder)3rd, Duante Culpepper 11th, and Cade McNown 12th, could all be considered to have been taken way too high.

This is a similar year in that there are several QB's being talked about, argued over, debated and such but none are a slam dunk. Emotions played a part in many teams who needed a QB, drafting one well ahead of where they should have been on their draft board. Most teams ultimately were hurt by this.

If the Panthers at No 1, do like the Browns and pick a QB just because they need one, when he will definitely not be on the board that high, then i am afraid we will end up like the Browns who paid for the move for years and years.

The best bet is to try to create the same environment that was around in 99, and have someone, like AZ, switch places with us and give us their second.

Second round is the place where most of these guys belong anyway.

At 5, take Green, Dareus, Miller, or Peterson, all who would be worthy of pick 5, and then, if need be, take Mallet in the second. He is just as risky as the others, but he has great skills, especially for the run first offense we will run.

Best scenario, a month out.

What is your best scenario?

why is it you're scared to take a chance if you think the team would be better if it took someone other than a QB at #1?

it's not like this is our only chance to land a qb *ever.* Hopefully it's our only #1, but other teams have shown that you can draft a QB after #1 and they can still turn out better than just "game manager" or whatever the fear is around here.

At least he didnt steal any laptops eh?

You're obviously apart of the Cam smear campaign and he BOUGHT a stolen laptop, didn't actually STEAL it.

Can't believe you're actually trying to justify snorting cocaine over buying a stolen laptop

Incompetence eh?

The 1999 draft is nothing like this One. For one the 1999 draft was said to be a great quarterback class at the time. Infact most people said it has the ability to rival the 1983 class. The 83 class was said to be the best ever and since most see this years class as bad, it far fetched to say this is as good as that one. Akili smith himself said he wishes he had half the athleticism of newton. Part the reason for smiths downfall was off the field problems and low work ethic.

    • I won’t say it destroyed us because we could have taken Stroud and just made better picks like not DJ Johnson and Matt Corral and Mingo and so on as well. It just put us in a position to trade up and make the wrong choice. Young could be OK and we could eventually win but it still set us back a lot because we spent so much and he doesn’t look like a stud. It does suck to look at the picks we gave up and the selections we made and see obvious choices that were thrown out in the draft threads: Young over Stroud Humphrey over TMJ Frazier over Cooks Downs/Dell over Mingo Cross over Iky (for pass blocking prowess) De’Von Achane over DJ Johnson - Actually looking back at the 10 players picked right behind DJ, you will see a bunch of contributing starters. Crazy how bad we are at drafting.
    • Whats the point of that then?  You waste a year on his deal and he is in no way shape or form some generational talent.  I mean there are 4 dudes coming out this year better then him.  trading up for an already injured RB has to be the dumbest thing I can thing of in recent memory outside of not trading Burns and not picking cj.   But hey we really should the cowboys a thing or two
