The signs are clearly pointing to Cam Newton.

First, I ate dinner at a vietnamese place the other day. My girlfriend knows I love the Panthers so she asked what was going on with them. Told her about the #1 pick, etc. Guess what my fortune was? See attached image.

Now, my rep hits 6666. I don't exactly know how this relates to Cam Newton at all, but since I'm a hater, I think I should jump to some kind of crazy conclusion, and Cam Newton being the spawn of satan seems appropriate, all things considered.

If Tony Softli likes Cam, it should be a big red flag for anyone considering drafting him.

Softli's job with the Panthers and Rams was researching and evaluating players.

He wasn't very good at it (and that's being very generous).

What's Softli doing here? Researching and evaluating a player.

In the whole quoted paragrah and the vast majority of the linked article all Sofli did was quote and relay what the sources told him.

The fact the Sofli is the person relaying the comments, doesn't make those comments any less legitmate then another.

I don't put much stock in the accuracy of information gathered by someone who's known for being bad at gathering information.

Like I said before, guys like Millen, Softli and McShay could agree with everything I think and I still wouldn't put that much stock in them. But guys like Mayock. Gosselin, Brandt and Nawrocki I take seriously even when I don't agree with their conclusions.

The point, again, is not to define how good an analyst is by whether or not they like your favorite player or team (which, if we're being honest, is what the vast majority of fans do).

You know the whole "source" discussion brings up an interesting question.

Warren Moon has suggested that racism and/or racial bias plays a part in the negative evaluations people have gotten of Newton. Some agree with that, others don't.

But here's the question: Without knowing anything about the actual sources other than that they're "part of the scouting community", how would we know that they're white? :sosp:

Its not as if Sofli was asking them questions they had no buisness answering, (the pro and cons of his talent, how he'll adjust to the NFL, etc..). Just asking about his character. Which they all could provide some insight. Not sure how all these sources would really be all that inaccurate.

The people who are critical of Newton are doing research too. In fact, Lance Zeirlein confirmed via an NFL team that one of the knocks on him came from someone at Auburn.

Do we only trust the anonymous sources that say good things? If you want to say that, what do you base it on?

I'll say here what I said elsewhere. i think Newton just has one of those personalities that some people like and some people can't stand. Chances are most of us know somebody like that. And for those folks, whether they're angels from above or demons from the pit depends on who you ask (generally the truth is somewhere in-between).

What you have to ask yourself is do I want someone that can be polarizing that way in a leadership position? NFL history can give you examples of guys like that who have been successes and others that have been failures. So again, we're talking risk-reward.
