Tony Softli on Cam

To draft Cam Newton #1 would be a huge huge mistake.

He is not worth the #1 pick in the entire draft. Why? Because

there are a lot of better players who are more NFL ready and

could help us immediately not years from now. Forget his past transgressions.

There are smarter picks like Darius or Patterson or A.J.Green anyone will be better

for us. Besides we will be picking high again next year with ot without Newton and

there will be 3 QBs for us to pick from that are better then Newton. Think ahead.

Actually, people would tell you Nawrocki is the most "plugged in" of all the draft analysts out there.

As mentioned before, I'd feel the same thing about Softli if he were supporting my point of view. Ditto Matt Millen. I'm not interested in either of their judgments because I've seen what happened to team that listened to what they had to say.

"He's just relaying info" you say? Fine. So is Nawrocki. So are others.

Marty Hurney didn't seem impressed.

Who are these people that would tell me about Nawrocki being plugged in...other media members?

It's funny how you claim that the people around Cam can't be objective, but then site Nawrocki's fellow media mouthpieces as proof that he is being honest and objective.

Again, if Newton is so fake, then he sure had Mayock fooled, not to mention all of the fans here who didn't notice a fake smile. Either that, or he was acting when he said that he was impressed with Newton in person.

Whether for good or bad, I wouldn't take much from Tony Softli seriously.

He ran the Panthers college scouting department through some of our worst drafts (including that disaster in 2005) before - for God only knows what reason - the Rams gave him full personnel control and he helped guide that team straight into the toilet.

Gil Brandt, Rick Gosselin, Mike Mayock, Nolan Nawrocki...all good sources. Softli? Not with a resume' like that :nonod:

Scot trolling? Say it ain't so.

Look back a page or two and you'll see what I think the deal is with Newton's personality.

Scot I never thought you were hating before but now Im starting to think differently

Think again.

Hypothetical: You want to bring me something that says Gil Brandt, Mike Mayock, Rick Gosselin, Nolan Nawrocki or Merill Hoge thinks Newton should be our pick? I'll listen to that. I may not agree with it, but I'll file it in memory.

On the flipside, if you told me Todd McShay, Matt Millen, Mike Florio or Tony Softli said we shouldn't, I would agree with their opinion but would still tell you those are lousy sources for draft opinion.

Even the smartest guys are sometimes wrong, and even the biggest idiots occasionally get something right. That's reality.

The mistake a lot of folks make on here is judging how good a draft analysts is by whether they like their favorite guy or not. Believe it or not, it is possible to respect a guy's opinion without agreeing with it. And on the other hand, blind squirrel...stopped clock...insert cliche here.

Bottom line is that I trust Hurney and his sources over anyone else.

Not really any choice in that matter. But we won't know his ultimate judgment until the pick is announces.

Hurney's certainly made some picks I didn't like, and will again I'm sure, but I'll get on board with them until there's reason not to.

I'm happy with Hurney as a GM, but he's not perfect (nor should he be expected to be).

Unfortunately everyone benefits off the record reporting. Teams can leak, or smokescreen info without being attached. Journalists like the juicy details they get by using unnamed sources. The only oroblem is theoretically a journalist could claim his cat as an unnamed source.
