Blaine Gabbert's hush hush character issue: underage drinking, fighting

Sam Mills Fan

Yes, and do some research about it next time if you really want to consider it a character issue. His brother basically got jumped for taking too long to piss, so Blaine and a friend defended him. The fight was broken up way before police even arrived and no citations were given and no arrests were made.

While it's very likely Blaine had been drinking, we don't know if he was drunk or how much alcohol was involved at all.

The reality is that having your brother get punched in a restaurant is not a character concern. Speculated under aged drinking is not a character concern. Being cited is, though how serious is debatable depending on the offense. Being arrested is pretty fugging serious no matter how old you are when it happens.

This is good news. I wish someone had told me about it when I got arrested for defending my god brother who got punched in the face at a concert. Instead I got drug through the mud, a night in the can, a citation for drunk and disorderly, underage consumption, plus assault on a government official (police officer got in the way of my fist) and nearly had my scholly pulled from my coach. As a matter of fact I went through great lengtys to conceal it or else he would have.

BUT, as far as me caring about this or questioning his character I think it is just as stupid as the Cam stuff. I don't think it is a big deal and it doesn't worry me. If Gabbert is the guy I won't freak out.

But clearly he is a thug who feels like he is above the law and will never command a locker room

:D

Bwahahaha! Thanks for that one kiddo. Mav was wrong or lying, here's an article with more info:

http://www.columbiatribune.com/weblogs/behind-the-stripes/2010/feb/16/cleaning-up-some-facts/

"Two clarifications on our story regarding the three Missouri players who were involved in [the incident at Gumby’s Pizza][1]:

Originally, I wrote that the scuffle started when one of the MU players was using the restroom and was hassled for taking too long by a group of males. I had it backwards: Columbia police spokeswoman Officer Jessie Haden confirmed on Tuesday that it was in fact the players who were upset with another male who was in the restroom. From there, the verbal exchange started."

----------------

So the players started it. See how great it can be when you actually use links?

Not what was originally reported, but that doesn't mean it isn't true. What I heard was that Gabbert's brother got jumped after he was in the bathroom. I assumed it was because he was taking too ling to piss since that was the premise of a news report.

Ok, let's look at this police report, shall we?

Read your links next time:

We went to Gumby's at about 1:30 a.m. on 2/13. The fight was over when we arrived. We talked to eight people involved in the disturbance, and three people seated nearby, and one who'd also been in the restaurant but uninvolved. The three ball players were there together. Four other men who are apparently friends were there together. These two "sides" had words; then a physical fight broke out. The other one who was involved doesn't appear to be associated with either group.

Four other folks don't know who started it, just saw a fight break out. One who was involved but not associated with anyone tried to break it up. Said he grabbed one of the ball players to stop him.

The non-ball players said the three ball players started it by "mouthing" one of them in the restroom. Later, they say they all "had words" again. One of these folks was scratched and his shirt torn. Another one said he was grabbed by the throat. A third one said he was punched. The fourth one was not injured and said he tried to break it up.

Ball players: one cut his hand on the table when he hit it. He hit a plate which cut him. He said he was trying to break up the fight. One said he just tried to stop it. Another was punched, but wouldn't give any details about any of it.

Accounts conflicted. No one wanted anything done. Each person involved smelled of alcohol.

We documented it, No further follow up or investigation.

Ball players are 18, 20, and 21. Four friends are 35, 29, 25, and 27. Other one who tried to stop it is 32. Other witnesses are three men, 20, 20, and 20, and a female, 21.

So, with regard to injuries: the ball players: one cut his hand on the plate on the table and went to University ER for stitches. One was punched but would give no information on who did it. The other had no injuries.

Other four: one was scratched and his shirt torn; others told him one of the ball players did it. One had his throat grabbed and said one of the ball players did it. One was punched and said one of the ball players did it. One not injured.

Now, it was a linebacker (Gachkar?) who cut his hand. It was Tyler who broke his nose.

Who does that leave who was trying to break it up?

I have links and a police report. You have "hearing about it".

yes I have "hearing about it when it happened" and from everything I remember it was *nothing* of significance in regards to Blaine. It looks more like it was a big deal with his brother and Gachkar but I don't know. After all, I wasn't there, I just heard about it afterwards :)

serious question though. After Collin's bout with alcohol, Gabbert abusing it doesn't worry anyone??

Doesn't really bother me but thought I would throw it out to you guys

The actual police report says "smelled of alcohol," not "is plastered" but I'd be he had too much to drink. I had thought that was the story anyway.

I'd be astonished if any of the football players we've been looking at didn't drink at all in college. For the amount Gabbert tweets, I think if he actually was a drunk we'd see some sign of it in his twitter. Nobody seems to think Lafell or the others are drunks and they talk about partying and going out far more than Gabbert does. Guess it's possible, though. If teams are truly checking out peoples sex lives like reported, I'm *sure* they are looking at things like this.

Edit: the funny thing here is I don't want any QB at #1, lol

LOL MAV. GMs are lying on the radio but drunk kids who just got in a fight are honest about "just breaking it up"

I still don't care though.

actually I don't think Hurney was lying at all - was just saying you can't trust what he says.

The actual quote though is he had heard "things like that" about everyone, not just cam. He probably even heard about this :)

You aren't an intelligent man are you.

The bit that says 'the ball players started it' came from the other guys involved. What on Earth do you think they are going to say?!

The witnesses just said they saw a fight break out.

Haden, the police officer, is merely summarising these statements, hence why no one was in trouble - there was no evidence either way with who was to blame.

Finally the reporter has decided who was to blame and yet offers absolutely no quotes or reasons for deciding that.

found a USA today story with quotes that sound like what I had heard. May be inaccurate, who knows:

The unidentified males were described as older than college age. And Gabbert was considered the victim of an unprovoked assault.

"He was attacked," the person told Columbia Press Tribune. "There's no other word for it. You've got an adult who attacked a kid, sucker punched him."
