Blaine Gabbert's hush hush character issue: underage drinking, fighting

Again though, that's not the point of the thread. I'm just asking why it took a guy on a message board (a message board GOD mind you) to get this story out there when not one person in this thread has said they'd heard of this before now. All of these supposed draft gurus like Todd McShay have been blathering about Gabbert and this has never even been hinted at. Did none of these guys know about this? If not, what does it say about just how well they are at doing their homework? And if they did know about it, why has nobody brought this up anywhere?

If, I knew that answer, it would have been in my original post my young friend.

First of all I am not pro Gabbert or pro Newton.

But maybe the reason for this not to surface, other than the fact he was not arrested, is there is no ? about Gabberts character or personality now. There is still ? about Newtons personality and maybe thats the reason his past is interesting. Well thats one guess.

If it keeps us from drafting him then fine by me. Same with Newton.

But yet this incident just happened a year ago. ALL of the things people mention with Cam happened before that, even his decision to commit to Auburn (the most recent thing people like to mention because of the pay-to-play) happened in 2009. People keep mentioning stuff that he did when he was 18 which was back in 2007. Blaine's thing happened in 2010.

My only complaint about this whole argument (and I mean the Newton vs everyone else one not just this one in particular) is that people are actually dense enough to believe they aren't bias. Almost everyone is biased its just human nature. If you like Gabbert this won't be a big deal if you don't you will act like everyone is hating on Newton while giving a pass to Gabbert. Its a simple matter of preference. A person is going to do whatever it takes to make there opinion seem more credible then the next but at the end of the day it is just an opinion. This includes focusing on one players flaws while ignoring your own favorites.

We've heard everything about Cam from that time he cheated on a test to that time his smile was fake. But why haven't you heard about the time Blaine Gabbert got into a fight when he was publicly intoxicated while under 21 and involved in a fight outside a restaurant at 1:30am?

Be honest, how many of you had heard of this incident before you read this thread?

Yes, and do some research about it next time if you really want to consider it a character issue. His brother basically got jumped for taking too long to piss, so Blaine and a friend defended him. The fight was broken up way before police even arrived and no citations were given and no arrests were made.

While it's very likely Blaine had been drinking, we don't know if he was drunk or how much alcohol was involved at all.

The reality is that having your brother get punched in a restaurant is not a character concern. Speculated under aged drinking is not a character concern. Being cited is, though how serious is debatable depending on the offense. Being arrested is pretty fugging serious no matter how old you are when it happens.

Now, if Gabbert had been arrested or cited for public intoxication or anything else, that's different. Who knows, maybe the police around Columbia or wherever just refused to do their job and properly punish Gabbert, or maybe there really was nothing to punish at all.

I'm sure the team knows about it and has already looked into it. If they think it's significant, it'll just get added to the list of reasons not to take him. I just really doubt it's a big deal to them or anyone else.

I get the OP's point but if the drunken fight were the only thing Cam had done I don't believe it would have been a big deal. If a drunken fight were added to Cam's already tarnished image, then yes I think the media would blow it up. Cam is also under a larger microscope because he is the Heisman Trophy winner and led his team the title.

I fully understand why the OP wanted to post this, but do not feel like it is anything serious enough that it should have any impact on him.

In the same vein, the Newton stuff is not a big deal, given his behavior over the last 2 years.

One of these guys is more than likely going to be a Panther (IMO) and it would be nice to get beyond these daily attacks.
