Looking one year ahead: New 2012 NFL Mock Draft

So we take Darius, or Peterson, or Green and stick with Clausen for another year. He doesn't show the potential to be a franchise QB, but improves enough to get us to 6-10, which has us picking 7th in the draft.

Unfortunately, Luck, Barkley and Jones end up going 1st, 3rd and 6th, leaving us once again without a quarterback. Now we have passed on a chance to draft a QB with the potential to be a franchise QB in the hopes of waiting a year to get one that's more "NFL ready" because we were scared that the QB from the previous year might bust.

if that played out it wouldn't take much to trade up a spot to atleast grab Jones.

point is, unless they are convinced Newton will be a franchise QB there is no point in reaching/gambling on him and instead draft to beef up defense or draft Green for Future Offense...and get our QB next year or thru free agency.

I doubt we are in the top five picks of the draft next year. Our defense will be much better and we will bring in competition for Clausen. Saying we will have a chance for Luck or even Barkeley is a pipe dream. It isn't going happen. That is why we are going to pull the string on a quarterback this year. Even picking Newton or gabbert they will have a year of experience in our system and be ready to start in 2012.

You have to play the hand you are dealt. Waiting for the perfect hand to then go all in rarely wins. Largely because the perfect hand rarely if ever happens.

Exactly. All 3 are better than any QB in this current draft. Trade down, fix the rest of the team, have two first rounders next year to parlay into getting one of those three.

Sorry, don't see it. I do not see how Jones or Barkley will be any better or safer than Cam, Mallet, or Gabbert.

Luck is the only QB with a extreme upside and less risk, however I do not believe it is reasonable to expect us to be in position to draft him next year. We were lucky to get the #1 pick this year, and do not believe we will have the #1 pick in back to back years... and the ONLY way to get luck next year is to have the #1 because the team drafting first probably will not be in any situation to pass on him.

Just I as would hate to think that so many of our fans think that it is a good idea to plan a draft strategy based on players that might, or might not, enter next years draft because you might, or might not, have a chance to draft them.

Are you guys talking about the two QBs that in their own write up said they still had a lot to prove before tney were a legit franchise QB and that they are no Sam Bradford??? And these are the QBs I am supposed to get excited about??

I would take Cam Newton over Matt Barkley...... hell I would take Ryan Mallett over Matt Barkley every day of the week.

Not sure about Landri Jones. He is intriguing and if I had to pick today I would take Jones over Barkley.

I agree. The problem is that this board has become obsessed with Luck. So now they think since Luck>Cam then Cam plum sucks. That is rediculous also.

Is this incentive to not gamble on QB this year, build up defense or draft AJ Green for future on Offense and concede likely going to suck again with Claussen and get our Franchise QB next year?

That is exactly what we SHOULD do,popstpone gratification, it will

pay off big time. We WILL be drafting #1 again next year Newton or no Newton. So lets start building a solid foundation this year.
