A more thoughtful take on Moon, Cam, and Race

He would say that we dint divulge private info that we find out about this stuff. Then he would have refrained from taking a pot shot at Narwocki.

Plus we wouldn't be even considering Newton if we thought this was true.

the other alternative is we don't consider it a big deal that it's true and Hurney doesn't want to admit to the world that it is because that rapes Cam's draft stock for other teams. We did draft Clausen despite nearly identical complaints about him (relating to personality & leadership).

I doubt that the Cam complaints are all legit but there is probably some truth in there some place, just like there was with Clausen.

Again I think he would have said nothing if that were the case. I also don't think he would have taken the couple of pot shots at Narwocki the way he did.

I might be wearing Cam colored glasses but to me it sounded like a guy starting to defend his pick. Or potential pick.

Why exactly do you think he would say nothing if he wanted to make sure Cam Newton's value stayed high?

It is more likely he hasn't heard this stuff, but I doubt he heard it about Jimmy Clausen either based on how much he did want him.

As to nobody questioning Cam's leadership, I don't see why people are either but then again I had no idea why people were questioning Jimmy's at the time either. I'm just not that connected :P

I can see how these numbers would work, since the NFL is a significantly higher percentage of blacks then whites.

It isn't factored on total numbers but percentages. The numbers actually work against blacks as a percentage with a typical regression to the mean. In other words with more people participating it is harder to show a significant difference than it is with fewer people.

The main reason is that if it was true then all the other GMs would likely know it so it doesn't really matter what he would say. Plus instead of putting yourself on the record you just take a pass. Rivera did that just last week. Wouldn't change Cams value one way or another IMO.

I also want to add that Clausen's failings last season had less to do with his ego and more to do with his ability and utter lack of confidence.

Not all GMs do the same research or find the same things out. If that kind of info is true and you are trying to generate interest in the prospect you do everything you can to discredit it because it would tank a player's value. Hurney is much more versed in this stuff than Rivera is, so I'm not surprised they gave different answers. I still don't think it was us that believe that stuff about Cam and it probably isn't true, but it certainly still could be possible despite Hurney's denials. Remember, you can't trust anything these guys say to the press right now... even if a guy is a terrible leader. ;)

With Clausen, I saw a guy who couldn't get his teammates to believe in him for a second. He never got any help because they didn't think it'd matter if they did give him help.

You're probably right. But what better way to convince someone who likes Newton you're sold on him and they need to call you to trade than roundly flay the guy who just put out damning information, especially if someone in your group put it out? ;) Damage control on steroids. I know it didn't happen, but it'd be amusing.

Every single person out here acknowledging that skin tone matters with all of this money involved are showing that they are concerned with it in some manner.

Cam is the QB of the national champions. The spotlight will be on him. Clausen was RAVAGED on this board before, during, and after the season. It, just like Newton, has nothing to do with heritage and has everything to do with the Carolina Panthers needing a franchise QB. A microscope is going to be placed on them. The vast majority of the posters here really won't care if they wear women's underwear, so long as he can win titles.

Can we please debate what's being presented and not these pathetic personal identity issues?
