The John Fox Mentality. Cmon

Nah, the irony is gonna come from the amount of people here who are going to be watching him like a hawk if we don't draft him.

There will be a few that won't post here anymore and will become fans of the team that does land Cam.

I personally don't care where he lands, just as long as it's not here...that goes for Gabbert too.

Then they still have a vested interest in him being terrible.

I can't speak for everyone, but I have no vested interest in him at all. If we draft him, I'll support him. If we don't, I'll support who we draft.

Most of us just don't want a QB because we think there are better picks. That doesn't mean we want Newton to do poorly.

We're in an almost unique position in the NFL. We had a team last year that was simultaneously undergoing a massive change in on-the-field leadership, working for a lame-duck coaching staff, and starting way too many rookies at skill positions. Moreover, we were almost too sensitive to the injury bug (possibly because the coaches were leaving anyway, so the FO got risk-averse). And we stunk it up big-time on the field.

If you go back through the last ten years, you'll be hard-pressed to find any team taking in the top three that's anywhere near as talented as we are. Maybe the Chargers in 2004, but most of the teams spent a couple years earning the right to pick at the top (take a look at how often Detroit and Cleveland are in there). I would argue that even without a pick, we're young enough and talented enough to get back to the middle of the pack this year.

And because of that, there's never been a better time to take a risk. It's not like we'll end up in Raider territory if Newton is a bust, it just means we swung for the fences and missed.

Since Baseball season just kicked off

Heavy Hitter at the plate (Hurney hasn't missed on 1st Round Picks) Bottom of the 9th, score tied, based loaded (team is fully talented) 3-2 count Pitcher gotta throw a strike (#1 Pick) Let her rip. Go for the Fence go for the dramatic win.

An additional incentive if he fails. He is still talented enough for us to convince him to move to TE or even WR. Newton is unique to where if he is a bust he could possibly play another position. Kind of like that Jones Kid out of Arkansas that played for Jacksonville. Though he never played QB he has the talent to.
