Hurney on WFNZ @ 8:15 am today

I don't think he would say one bad word about Cam Newton. But if there were any truth to what Narwocki said Hurney would have simply said "we aren't going to discuss the private information we have gathered in our research". Much like Rivera did at the owners meeting.

Instead Hurney was adimant that he had heard none of those things and even went so far as to question Nawrocki's sources. That is different from simple posturing.

Because there's only one wording you can use to deny something?

Like I said, he could know the darkest secrets possible and you wouldn't hear a word. From our position, it'd be pretty stupid to say anything negative.

We may feel just as positively about Newton as they make it seem, but this time of year you just can't take anything like that at face value.

Hurney owned Nolan Nawrocki in that interview! He shot more holes in Nolan than they did 2Pac.

I don't think Hurney's especially concerned with what any of the draft media say.

If he makes the wrong pick though, we'll be the ones getting owned :(

That scenario worries me more than any other.

I feel confident that Hurney will do the right thing with the #1 overall pick. Whether it's Cam or not, I feel pretty strongly they'll get it right. And plus he's Irish, so he must have some type of luck.

just listened to the interview it definitely sounds as though we are leaning towards taking a QB...in fact, i think it would be quite an upset if any name other than newton or gabbert were called on the 28th

If Hurney is giving hints about who he'll take, that's exactly who I'm betting against we'll draft. Hurney doesn't give out information and what little he does is usually intentional mis-information. I'm actually liking the chances we pass on Gabbert or Newton if Hurney is talking them up.

Hurney is turning over a new leaf. I never remembered him being so open. I really believe that if you trust what he is saying we are drafting Cam Newton #1.

I don't know if it's a new leaf, as much as it is the #1 pick. There is really no reason to try to fool anybody from this position. In fact, they were ready to announce Andrew Luck as their pick about 5 minutes after the season ended.

Second part is a good point. We were willing to wrap it up in 5 seconds. Fugging Luck.

I wouldn't go so far as to automatically think whoever he says, it'll be someone else.

I just don't think any of the "leaning" stuff should be taken at face value.

This doesn't explain 2003 though, where we basically didn't need to worry about the guy we wanted getting picked because of who was locked in to #1. Didn't seem like this then... but maybe it's just been too long and I've forgotten.

You raise a good point, we were set on Luck. Clearly, though, they don't like any one guy nearly as much as him. I dunno. Just confusing to me.
