Did Nawrocki cross the line?

Who gives a fug.

The only thing that matters in the whole Newton scenario is what he does with his chance, regardless of who drafts him.

If you don't want the panthers to draft him fine, if you do fine, but let it go already.

The saddest part of all this is that we as a group of know it alls and assholes aren't paying any attention to our other picks. So many of you think you're GM's in waiting yet if you really were in any position of evaluating prospects you'd be failing miserably. Due diligence doesn't just apply to one pick/prospect. And don't give me the "well I'm not a GM" crap, most of you talk like you are and you can't have it both ways.

Since we've exhausted the discussion for #1 and all that's left is for the panthers to make up their minds, I'd really like to see nothing but discussion about all our other picks. Come draft day/weekend most of us will have no idea who we want/need in later rounds.

I emplore you huddle, no more #1 pick talk.

Oh, and all you wannabe GM's, YOU'RE FIRED!!

I agree, but he can still write whatever he wants. If you don't like it, don't read it. He has a job based on readership. If he writes crap, he won't have a very large readership and he won't have a job. Let that be the deciding factor.

If he writes some wrong or defamatory then he'll get sued, his publisher will get sued and he'll get fired.

That brings up a good point, actually.

You don't sell draft previews by being controversial.

You sell draft previews by being right.

On that front, Nawrocki has a very good record (read some of the profiles in the racism quiz thread). Does he miss? Sure, they all do. Even his predecessor Joel Buchsbaum who was, in my opinion, the absolute best draft evaluator out there until he passed away.

But chances are most on here have never heard of Buchsbaum either, so I guess they'll think he was a "nobody" too, and then go back to listening to guys like Kiper and McShay.

This is one of the things I've said plenty of times on here. Teams don't pay attention to media scouts like Kiper, Mayock, Brandt or Nawrocki. They get their info internally from their own scouts, and it's a mistake to sit back and think that just because a lot of the media guys rate a player a certain way that all the different scouting departments agree. They likely don't, and some of the gaps could be huge.

I just wrote something similar in the other thread...

My point being, the team has all the resources they need to check a player's background independent of the media.

So why would so many different media sources report so negatively on one player? And although teams get the facts for themselves, until they do, and sometimes even after they do, these reports, no doubt, can make them question whether they should investigate more.

They're media. It's their job to report what people tell them, good or bad.

Zierlein pointed out that some draft sites omit the personal character stuff while others don't.

And as I've said, Newton is not getting more negative attention than prior prospects. But we, in the Panthers fanbase, are more conscious of it because now that's our pick at the top of the draft.

A major point from the article that I don't think people should miss...

The comment about knowing where the cameras are at all times seemed a little much but I've heard the same comment behind the scenes from an NFL team and they got that info from Auburn.

    • I realize we were down 24 points when the Carolina Panthers touched the ball  for the first and only time  in the 3rd quarter...and they went on a 14 play checkdown drive taking the exact plays the Cards wanted them too and gave them overall.  and now you got folks cherry picking random plays asking how could it be garbage time if the Cards weren't in prevent on a 3rd down short yardage play or on the goal.  all you got do to is just watch the game live on repeat and not listen to the announcers.
    • Just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth. I think Bryce decides who he's throwing to before the snap too often instead of reading what he sees post snap. Now alot of that is trying to influence the safety, but if the safety doesn't bite, he gets stuck and it turns into Bryce trying to make a play off schedule as the other options are gone. Cam did the same thing when Kelvin and Smitty were in the game. Bryce sees the field. He just gets a little stubborn sometimes. And that's when he gets himself into trouble. That and he doesn't trust guys to make plays on 3rd down. Instead of throwing to the open guy and letting them get the remaining 3-5 yards for the first, he'll wait until he can throw a guy to the markers. I don't think those physical limitations that keep being brought up is that real for him. Well... until he gets tackled and fumbles the ball at an alarming rate. But he has a strong enough arm, sees the field, and doesn't get injured by regular hits.
    • Panthers win of course.  Like every Sunday I still have the hopelessly optimistic mindset  😎
