Racism Quiz

Again, I'm the first to admit racial bias has a major part in all aspects of society... not just football...

I meant broken records as in all the Cam threads, Clausen bashing threads, and What if? threads...

The offseason is boring, so people have to regurgitate ideas hoping they come up different than they did... failing to realize that they always end up the same way... as vomit...

Gotcha. I just feel this is another variation of a Cam thread though because it branched off of the Warren Moon/Cam thread, so that's how I was looking at it. But, I feel you on the repetitive nature of offseason threads.

I'm definitely ready to move onto the next stage of the offseason.

Generally I agree about playing the race card, but not in every instance. Anything with race should be handled with care and respect. And this is an exception to the "race card" rule - Warren Moon is saying it.

I mentioned in the other thread, you know the one that didn't need a whole other thread to refute it but someone didn't want to discuss their opinion in that one so they made another meaningless thread... I digress... but, I mentioned in that thread that in all my years watching Warren Moon from a child in the late 80s and early 90s, I never saw or heard Moon make excuses as to why he didn't get a chance coming out of college.

Sure, he's addressed it, but he's never flew that flag of being a victim. He understood it for what it was, went to the CFL and worked his way to the position he got to can became a hall of famer - he never used it as an excuse. So for him to say that racism is a factor in how Cam is being portrayed in the media - that gives me pause and give it some credence. The guy never used the race card for himself and allowed himself to become a victim or a failure. So why would he play it for someone else?

you're taking all my damn pie with these post. You explain it better than me. I just wanna slap the poo out of somebody.:ciappa:2463p7a.gif

Was Moon ACTUALLY good enough to play when he came out? Plenty of guys don't get chances and go elsewhere then improve and get a chance and play well. A few white guys come to mind as well. It's easy to look back and say "of course he did, look at his career" but in that point in time when he came out, was he good enough?

Also, it's easier to play the race card after the fact because he no longer has anything to lose. If he played the race card back then, do you think any team would have given him a chance after that? His only choice was to get to work and he did. If he went on some rant about racism he would have never gotten a shot so he didn't play the victim role, he did the only thing he could possibly do at the time, get better.

It's just an excuse for the weak of mind, those that feel helpless.

Nope. My father is a great man and I only wish I could one day be like him.

You might be surprised to know a lot of things about me if you ever left the main forum, but I'll let you think we're really different or that I hate black people so you can continue on with your fun

THErealdeal is a good guy at heart, I can say i will vouch for that. He may label things in his own way that speaks truth to him, and I dont find fault in that. I hope we all can be as honest as therealdeal, and I hope people will respect warren moon for his own truth and his observations as a man. Warren not only has an opinion he has played the game longer than any of us, has delt with the media like none of us have and has been in cams hip pocket this entire process, I respect the man for his observations.

Im not going to talk about your father seriously. I take that back. But you sound like you don't believe there are some out there that don't like Cam because he's black. You're supposed to have inside information on this type of stuff. How you cant see it is beyond me. Maybe you're just so cool with everybody they don't want you to know.

There, I just aced your quiz.

How can I say that? Because ANYONE who is really going to look at these subjective descriptions, that IS NOT racist, isn't going to assume ANY sort of race to describe any of these people.

Why? Because the success or failure of a pro athlete is not attributable to that person's race. It's a culmination of environmental upbringing, intelligence levels, cultural expectations, situation, physical talent and support from family and coaches.

This is seriously the most unscientific, pointless "quiz" ever, and really speaks to a fundamental flaw in your thought process on race.

I did think as I was posting that he could have less to lose at this point by playing it for Cam... BUT, my point was that he never did it himself even after he got a chance and became successful (say when he had some years in and the league couldn't bully him out if he said anything about it).

And I can't speak for actually watching him play, but from the things I've seen (highlights, interviews, etc.), he was an excellent college football QB. He won as well (didn't he play in the Rose Bowl for UW his last year there IIRC?). Additionally, I couldn't find stats from his college career, or any of the other QBs, but upon looking up the 1978 draft in which he wasn't selected, the only guy that made a lasting impact of any sort playing wise was Doug Williams.

It's somewhat ironic, because Doug Williams was drafted 17th overall that year and Moon went completely undrafted, lol. BUT, on Williams' wikipedia it talks about how the Bucs owner signed him to the lowest salary in the league for a starting QB, even lower than a good deal of backups in the league. Supposedly, Williams and the coach went to the owner and asked for a raise, but what he was offering was still extremely low compared to other starters - so they eventually let Williams go over it.

Also, I've heard Tony Dungy talk about how he had to switch positions coming out of college because of race. So, there's is not doubt in my mind that Moon was ready to play in the NFL as a QB when he came out of college.

And again, there is no doubt in my mind that racism is still a problem in this country. I don't dispute that the race card is often used carelessly, irresponsibly, and without merit... But, I think Moon has a point here. And it's not just with Cam, it's all black QBs. Just as I mentioned in the other thread, it happens with white athletes (at the skill positions) as well in different ways. And it is blatant. It does seem to be much more concentrated right now though because of Cam's past (fitting the black stereotype with a criminal history and moral questions regarding pay for play) and he's so high profile with the possibility of being drafted so high coming off a Nat'l Championship.
