Racism Quiz

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

You really wanna tell me that thinking you know all that stuff you said about him when you don't know him and admit yourself that haven't bothered to investigate any of the facts about it...that's not prejudice?

Sorry. Sure sounds like "prejudging" to me.

What I am telling you that, as Americans, we all have our baggage when it comes to racial matters, and it's only with education, experience, and going against the norm that we can get to a point where we judge people by the content of their character and disregard the color of their skin. I would think that an honest and genuine person can admit this.

We don't live in a colorblind utopia. Still, far from it! All the Oprahs and Obamas can't change the fact that there are still racial problems and disparities in this melting pot that we call America. I am not going to bore you with statistics about whites, blacks, Mexican immigrants, Mexican-Americans, Native Americans, etc. I am not going to get into a discussion in this forum about comments that you've heard some of your friends and family make, or comments I've heard some of my friends and family make. I could give you instance after instance of ignorance which at many times is based on misunderstanding or mistrust. If you go and look at most schools within this country, even at a university level, when you go to the dining hall, dorm, etc. you will find de facto segregation. What this tells me is that we still have a ways to go, and that most people just don't have the inclination to actually develop anthing more than superficial relationships with members of other races, ethnic groups, and/or cultures. I mean, really, how can we have meaningful relationships unless we learn and respect someone else's concerns, problems, etc.?

Like I have repeatedly said, I don't know Nawrocki, and really can't know him unless we develop a relationship on a personal level. But, I can judge what the man has written about Cam Newton, and I say it is just a little far out there in regards to fair football analysis. I didn't say it was racist. I have said pretty much to the contrary. But I did say that he probably brings his own baggage to the table, just like everyone else in regards to race relations, and I am not going to change my mind. If you can''t accept this truth, then so be it. I can tell that you have some baggage yourself by your refusal to listen to me when I gave you my reasons as to why this thread, and your little "racism quiz" was a bad idea. Just because Warren Moon believes something, and maybe others does no t make it so. This is self-evident. But just because you give someone a so-called "racism quiz" to make a point does not lessen the reality that racism still exists. And, furthermore, I find the whole notion of this quiz a little bit disengenuous, somewhat insensitive, ludicrous, and could even define it as offensive, especially in light of the fact that I expressed my concerns over it before the self-fulfilling prophecy of useless, unprovable arguments even got started.

Good God, what does that say about me then?

Well, let's be honest. That's kind of what this is all about.

See, when you throw "racist" at somebody, then you don't have to actually argue the facts or merits of their position anymore. You can completely disqualify everything they say because "they're just racist".

Like a trump card in a card game, it allows you to pat yourself on the back and say "I win" even if your argument was weaker than a soccer player's resistance to being knocked down. No actual evidence of racism is required, sadly. The charge on and of itself is enough.

And of course, when you call someone on it, the default response if "you're just denying racism exists" as if the judgment on one statement was a pronouncement on racism everywhere. Nobody is actually denying that, and anyone who can read ought to be able to see that if they're being objective, which many of our guys are not.

Weak? Lame? Cowardly? Lazy? All of the above, I'd say, but it still keeps getting tried.

Sheesh

This quiz was not to prove that racism doesn't exist. Can everyone understand this?

Yes, but it was posted in order to invalidate someone else's feelings, regardless if said feelings have merit or not. It doesn't come from a good place, in my opinion. To me, it's more about mockery than understanding, and I certainly don't believe that it should be on our Carolina Panthers board.

Like I've said to others, if you think this is new, you've never read Nawrocki before. Look up his review of Clausen. It's pretty rough.

Add in that he himself has said his info has been gathered from scouts and personnel people, so it's not like it's his personal attack. It's what he's heard people saying.

1. Don't know who he is and I don't care

2. So he repeats what others say. So he's a gossip. And when someone is a he said she said person, They have ZERO credibility.

I hope that Cam is drafted by the Panthers but I also hope he proves every critic completely wrong and is a superstar for years to come just... because.
