Racism Quiz

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

See, and here you go again just trying to say the same thing in a different way.

If it's "racial bias" that Nawrocki suffers from, then we ought to be able to tell by common themes in his writing.

You can't find them (in your case, you're not even going to test it).

Do you seriously not realize the difference between overt racism and racial bias??

Honestly that explains a lot. Really sad that your quiz is reaffirming your misguided views. Good luck. :nonod:

How'd I stack up Scot?

Honestly, not so good. Seven wrong (though I didn't count "Libyan" against you)

And to answer your question, I don't really think about it when a black guy says "white boy" but you make a valid point.

Examples:

I walk up to a black guy and punch him in the face repeatedly because he's black and I hate black people. It's okay for him to say that it was because he's black because I told him it was because he's black and I hate black people.

If I come home from work and a black guy is fugging my wife and I punch him in the face then he claims I did it only because he's black, that's pulling the race card.

Do you understand the difference?

We obviously have two different understandings of "playing the race card"

You think that a person claiming race was the motivating factor is only "playing the race card" only if that claim is unjustified.

Whereas I think that "playing the race card" is any claim that race was the motivating factor behind an event/behavior/etc. Somethimes it is justified and sometimes it isn't, but the validity of the claim makes no difference.

Since the metaphor used is game of cards, my definition makes more sense to me. Sometimes it is the right move to play a card and sometimes it isn't (Know when to hold' em, know when to fold 'em) but whether it is the right play or not, you still are playing the card.

Now watch people try to cheat off you

Okay, so I'm up to speed on grading, and momentarily I'll be posting the answers.

I'm gonna put the answer key in a separate thread so that if others who log on later want to take this, they can still do so.

(no cheating, you bastards)

The only person that can definitely be accused of making a racist comment is in fact Warren Moon. He has made an assumption that the white guy is criticising Newton simply because he doesn't like black people, or that he has let the stereotypes cloud his assessment.

This random reporter might be racist, but there is no way to tell based on what he said, especially considering he has made equally scathing remarks about other QBs in the past of differing races. Thus the only thing Moon has has assumed the guy is racist, which in turn is in fact judging another person by their race.

If you think some random guy making these comments about Newton will have any impact on his draft status, then you don't realise how little GMs and scouts listen to the media. Now, if the media catch onto this, the reporter could see his career go up in flames.

Also want to point out that I have never once accused PFW of any of this. I'm just not ignorant enough to believe I can prove it doesn't exist. Cam has questions he brought on himself and it has nothing to do with race. He needs to answer those questions.

But even so I would never dream of playing a "racism quiz" and trivialize something that I have seen effect so many people. It isn't cowardice; it is respect to those who have to deal with this crap.

And again, no doubt this stuff has to be checked out - but I don't find it to be a huge concern.

But this brings me to another point - how often have you heard a white guy that gets in trouble called a "thug."

I just don't think he would be criticized like all the others... Being a black QB, I feel 99% of the time their intelligence or work ethic is brought into play by media/analysts.

The point I was making was that whether you believe they are important or not, and I have said I am not concerned with off field stuff as much as his on field stuff, there ARE reasons why some could draw that conclusion about him. You have your opinion on why he did those things but other people may draw different conclusions and it has nothing to do with race, just like your defense of him doesn't. I personally think he was young, was in the spotlight, and probably felt invincible at a young age and took advantage. He could possibly be different or possibly be the same but it has nothing to do with his race because white people have done the same (Leinart, Colt Brennan)

Many people have referred to Big Ben as a thug as well.

Although you might think his intelligence and work ethic are being questioned because he is black, Mallett had the same concerns coming in this year. You could also point to the cheating as a lack of intelligence and the leaving Florida as a lack of work ethic. He didn't want to compete for the job so he left. He didn't want to deal with the school and get back into the good graces so he left.

Not saying those are accurate, but the case could be made. His wonderlic score also supports the case that he might not be intelligent, considering Mallett scored higher and everyone thought Mallett was dumb as a rock.

Plenty of people get criticized for those things each year.

The absolute bottom line is that if you go looking for racism in every aspect of life, you convince yourself it's there.

    • Just had Thanksgiving meal with a couple dozen family and friends. I lucked out and got one of the smoked turkey legs. Stuffing, mashed taters and gravy, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, kale, smoked ham, chicken and rice, corn, lima beans, cranberry sauce, and great people. My brother got his guitar out and we got to singing. Lots of actual conversations with people I hardly  ever get to see, haven't seen in a while, or who I never met before. Just a great moment to remember.
    • 3-8 would be a higher win percentage than 3-9
    • Same... With the personnel the Niners had, that defense could have been historically good in the right hands. Under Wilks they were certainly good, they didn't quite rise to that level. Honestly, I see Wilks kinda like I see Rivera: fantastic person, decent head coach. Skill wise, phenomenal DB coach, so-so DC. His greatest strength is his leadership. Hard to find many better in that department. In the Xs and Os / execution area though, not as good. Bottom Line: Wilks is the sort of coach that needs a staff that excels in those aspects of the game where he's weaker. But, like Rivera, I don't know that he scouts assistants very well. That as much as anything might be why he's not in the NFL now.
