Do we still have a transition tag?

I don't think so Carp. I believe the transition can be used only one time by a team. The Franchise tag can be used each year, but I could swear the transition tag is a one time thing.

Nah, it used to be if you signed a player to a long term deal after giving him one of the tags you couldn't use either tag until said players contract ran out. Now both tags revert to the next season no matter what. Each team gets the chance to tag one player each off season.

The differences between the tag are different in some slight ways.

Franchise tag - salary - Top 5 players at position or 120 percent more previous year.

Exclusive - player can't talk to anyone about a contract but the team who tagged him.

Non exclusive- Player can talk to other clubs and try to get a trade done.

Transition tag - salary - top 10 players or 120 percent more then previous year.

Player can talk to other clubs and get signed by other clubs, gives tagging team the option to Counter offer the player to keep him.

Both type of the tags offer guaranteed contracts.

Carp, I found what it was that was stuck in the back of my mind...

"Each team can name one Franchise Player or one Transition Player. (Note: In the final year of the CBA, the team may elect to designate a Transition Players AND a Franchise Player -- or two Transition Players in lieu of naming a Franchise Player.) When the team places either tag on a player, they have effectively offered the player a one year contract at a predetermined annual wage."

Now here is the deal, is this 'officially' considered the last year of the CBA since the owners are opting out? If so I tag both thier asses.

No 2010 is I believe the last year of the current cba. There isn't a Cap though for the season. I believe it was put in place to help speed up the process of getting the CBA renewed.
