Steve Smith...

he would have to at least have 2 more great seasons, then another 3 maybe 4 really good seasons to have a chance.

Right now he has

509 catches for 7,348 yards and 43 receiving Td's

42 rushes for 273 yards and 2 RTD's

98 KR for 2371 yards and 2 Td's

172 PR for 1606 yards and 4 Td's

Giving him 11,598 All purpose yards with 51 total Td's

He next 5 season would probably have to look something like this for him to get in.

2009 - 88 - 1500 - 9

2010 - 80 - 1400 - 8

2011 - 66 - 1000 - 5

2012 - 69 - 1100 - 5

2013 - 50 - 800 - 4

That would put him at 862 catches for 13,148 yards with 74 receiving td's and a total of 17,398 all purpose yards with 82 total td's

Like they say, if you have to ask, then the answer is No. At this point in his career, and the production thus far, I'd have to say no. But, if he lasts in the league until he is 35-36 years old, then his stats may say otherwise at that point. He could have 12,000 yards and 100 Tds by then, who knows.

Whew! The way the Huddle has been going lately I was afraid this was going to be a trade Smith thread. Not that you'd do that Misty_Mountain_Hop.

It doesn't hurt that most sports writers, etc., (who do the HOF voting) consider his one of the elite WRs in the game...

I would never ever trade Smitty!

If he ends up with 11,000 yards and 100 Td's, he should be in.

A Lombardi trophy helps also...

Let me put it this way. When its all said and done he will deserve to get in. Will the stats say so is another question. However Smith is one of most electrifying players, and of the most electrifying WRs to play the game. If he doesn't get the numbers it won't be his fault he brings his A game every game and we all know what he is capable of. If Jake gets hurt again, or Moose, Jarrett , and Hackett diminish all these things will affect his numbers. Not mention the only pass plays we run are playaction to Smith and if he's covered, Jake throws to Moose across the middle. And it doesn't help that Jake never checks down to open TE's or spreads the ball around when Smith is in the game.
