Blaine Gabbert and Christian Ponder under center

People seem to forget that in his 4 year career Young was a 2 time probowler and twice came in and went on winning streaks of 6 or more games. He fought with the head coach and was psychologically fragile. By all accounts Newton is definitely not. If Newton can come in and play like Young without being nuts, he would be a huge pickup for us.

Probowl? Wasn't he the third alternate?

Yay for being somewhat popular in the NFL

All of those guys had to first learn to throw from the pocket to be successful with their legs, and they aren't known as world beaters with their legs, just Vick. You have to be able to read zone coverages and make the necessary throws, and Cam hasn't shown an ability to do that.

Those guys don't drop back and say "Oh look, the LB dropped into coverage, I'm going to run now!" They try and read the coverage to make the necessary throw for success and if it's not there they buy some time and still read the defense and if they have to they run. None of that describes Cam except for the sarcastic quote.

You make it sound like guys are going to stand there and stare at Cam and ignore everything else going on around him? That just doesn't happen.

How many of Cam's TDs have come against zones? How many came from YAC yards with his receivers making great run after catch? How many were streaks?

I thought so.

You really just don't get it. I'm done wasting my time

You mean like Young whose career record is 30-17. His rookie year with arguably poorer mechanics and football understanding than Newton he went 8-3 his rookie year after coming in in October.

Bottom line is that Newton is considered better right now than Vince Young. If he can do the same things while staying sane we have our franchise guy for the next decade and someone who can start the middle of this year not 2 or 3 down the road.

Ummm, try listening to those youtube videos. Notice how often his completions are screamed as 'WIDE OPEN'.

He possibly had 5-6 throws to the middle of the field that were pretty good throws, the rest were poorly thrown, misread or just downright dangerous throws. I stand by the fact that his deep ball was all he had, and that was down to the defences not being as focused on them. Notice how many of these plays came on play action plays...

His running will likely be as effective as Young's was. Good enough to beat the odd team here and there, but ultimately not good enough that it forces teams to completely change the way they play him. Vick is and was a MUCH more athletic QB and a much better runner.

There wide open because of the threat of the run. Any team that drAfts newton would be foolish to not have some sort of run fake in all of there packages like auburn. If Vince can get by with his legs and make a pro bowl year one why not cam?

I honestly think he can contribute week one as a back up 7-10 snaps in the auburn offense he already knows, while learning from the sidelines.

My little brother and his friend do not understand this. We sure had a hell of a time getting our asses whooped by Freeman

He came in, in October and went 8-3 as a starter his rookie year. Again replace opinions with facts and you might be credible.

He was 8-5 assclown.

Replace opinions with facts and you might be credible. blah blah blah

You are right, he wasn't the third alternate, he was the 4th QB on the roster after Rivers couldn't play.

Such a high honor for him :)

4. Gabbert isn't great with the deep ball, but Cam is by no means leaps and bounds better. You see, Cam had the luxury of defences bringing down safeties and had linebackers spying him to prevent him from running, or stop him if he did. The deep ball should have been easy. You can't declare Cam has fantastic accuracy without considering what the defences are doing.

This post should basically make every non-Cam Fan flip.

Gabbert is far and away the better QB. BUT

We would be better off taking an all-pro stud on defense.

This draft is loaded with them. If we do have to get a QB

(dumb move I'd wait til 2012). Then I'd get Gabbert he is more

dialed in to play in the NFL then Newton is.

Gabbert played in more of a "gimmick" offense then Newton. How is he more pro ready? If anything they are equally prepared and the edge goes to Cam because of potential.

Plz we knew this from years of the Vick experiment. After watching years of that I thought the concept would be easy to see by now. It would be great to have the shoe on the other foot now. Of course I know he has to grow as a passer but, his gifts as a mobile runner should keep him around long enuff to learn. Also he'd make our average line and wrs look slot better. Giving up less sacks and more time to get open.

And then we'll all hop in our flying cars that have no carbon footprint and head come to our busty supermodel wives for some hot sex before we go in the backyard and take a ride around the lake on our dolphins with lasers on their heads

What are you laughing at he's right to an exstent. Missouri's spread pass all day offense made chase Daniels look all world. He competed for the hiseman while gabbert looked average. In a offense that passes 70% of the time, his production is alarming.

Gimmick?
