"One of them has to go to Carolina at #1" Mayock on QBs

No player is worth that much. Anyone, no matter how good a prospect, can go south in a hurry due to injury or other reason.

Every pick is a risk, but compounding it by putting all your eggs in that one basket can kill you.

Rumor has it that we offered our entire draft to the Colts in 1998 for the #1 pick.

True? Don't know.

Wouldda been worth it? Well...yeah.

Doubt anyone thought we'd accomplish much when we signed some guy named Delhomme either.

we got EXTREMELY lucky getting a guy that could produce 3000+ yard seasons for a good amount of time while making literally no initial investment

it didn't happen commonly 8 years ago and it's even rarer today

That's your argument.

Not an argument. You said "We can get a QB right now and start developing him, and we don't even have to worry about trading away picks or hoping one of these guys falls to us" We can do the same thing by developing the Qbs we have now and use the #1 pick on another position. Just saying that is an option.

This is the 2nd time(should have been 3rd except for Houston expan.pick in2002)we've had the #1 pick. The 1st time we traded the pick for an idiot QB and underachieving LT and passed on a future HOF QB.

With 10of the last 13 1st picks being QBs, it's fairly obvious how important FOs consider the position. If you have the opportunity to get the best QB in the draft and your evaluation is positive, you have to take that player, despite any imperfections.

Several years ago the Dolphins had a chance to take Ryan at #2 but instead took a terrific , potential HOF LT, Jake Long. Ask them now who they would take.

Well unless the QB's we have now can grow 3 inches, gain about 30lbs,magically develop stronger arms (and bigger hands in JC's case), and become faster and more nimble athletes over night, then none of them have the potential to develop in to stars like Cam Newton or Blaine Gabbert do.

That's great. I was just providing a counter argument to draft a QB now instead of next year. It is possible that we can get our franchise QB without drafting one in either year.

I remember those rumors. Word was JR really wanted him, and I believe that to be true. His talk about having a face of the franchise leads one to believe he really values that position.

But, as great as Payton is, he still just has the one ring. Others have more over the same period. Just shows what a crapshoot this is.

And how many of those guys at #1 were worth it?

You could make the argument that 4 of them are, with two as reaches.

Manning

Lil Manning (Maybe, I guess the ring counts)

Vick(2 playoff wins in 10 years)

Palmer (0 playoff wins in 8 years)

Bradford (Too soon)

Stafford (Always hurt)

A Smith (NO)

Russell (NO)

Couch (NO)

Carr (NO)

Sounds great right?

Considering not many of those were considered projects, we want to grab a project at #1 and hope for better success?

FML

It's better to go with the best prospect rather than the sexiest pick

We could draft Peterson and he could be the next Revis in 2 years (best in the game)

We could draft Cam and he could only be a Freeman caliber QB in 2 years(clearly not the best in the game but very solid).

Which pick do you think would make Carolina better? Cam imo would make this team signicantly better. QB is too important and we got squat. Easy call. That is why QBs normally go #1.

Who knew that some QB's end up being busts? Wow.

BTW, I'm pretty sure that a lot of Panthers fans would take Vick, Palmer, Sanchez or Bradford over JC, MM,Pike, Volek or Bulger, which are about the only other options for us outside of the draft. Well, maybe McNabb and/or Kolb, but when was the last time an Eagles QB really did much of anything outside of that system?

Some??? You mean most

I would love to have Palmer and Sanchez, but it's not happening.

I think it'll be Volek, Moore, JC, and Pike/late rookie

The best 3 will stay

The best will start

profit

    • Film Room Playlist _ NFL Pro — Mozilla Firefox 2024-11-25 10-20-11.mp4 🎯🎯🎯 There were a couple of "fans" yesterday saying that this wasn't a helmet-to-helmet shot... 👀 Looks like based on where Moore was and where the play ended, he'd have gotten maybe just a yard or two more. Chuba was downed at the KC 16 and Moore was on his way back to the QB, so the offense got what they could for the most part. After reviewing the all-22, Bryce made the right call here. Tremble was the hot and KC sent both LBs. He gets it out with a clear pocket but it's quickly collapsing. If there was a little more time it looked like AT came free at the end but whether or not Bryce would've been upright still is another story. Smart move to get the completion and keep the field goal in play to stay alive. George Karlaftis is about to get himself a big ole hug and Bryce heaves it to where David Moore is going. Trent McDuffie slipped just a step or two before this shot, but we can see the clear DPI here as he's wrapped around David Moore before knocking him over as the ball gets there.
    • I’m taking a TE early day 3 Ian Thomas and Tremble are FA.  We should have no desire to bring them back.   There’s more than enough film of ball bouncing off their hands or facemask.
    • Daniel Jones sometimes would sling it for 300 or 400 yards.  That's my stance.  We know what Bryce is.  If you consistently play any QB at this level, they largely are going to end up w/ some good days/games.  last time Mahomes was at BOA, Teddy Bridgwater threw for 300+ yards and a couple TDs and the Matt Rhule Panthers almost took him down.  We know what Bryce is.  Now we got people predictably falling into a predictable trap.
