"One of them has to go to Carolina at #1" Mayock on QBs

If Qbs and DTs bust at the same rate, why not get the better overall player to try and decrease the chances of him busting? Why take on MORE risk by drafting a complete project? You are asking for failure when you do that, right?

I'd say Smith is happy with Moore at the helm and he's shown it through his actions in the past.

Because DTs are rarely game changers and frankly from a value point of view there is no comparison between finding a franchise quarterback and finding a great DT or DE. Look at Minnesota. Did having the William's brothers and Jared Allen send them to the NFC Chamionship game or did bringing in Brett Favre. When Favre faltered last year did the defensive line make up the difference? The answer is a resounding no. Their deense was always good and Petersen was a running beast for years. But when they finally get great quarterback play, they magically go to the Championship game.

Who was more important in 2003 and 2005 when we went to the playoffs- Jake or Peppers. Again not even close if you are being honest with yourself.

Smith is not happy with Moore just less unhappy than he is with Clausen. More failed to get him the ball last year on a regular basis as well.

Did you really just make the same joke?

What is the psychobabble reasoning for that?

How about this:

Because you are so self absorbed it takes several times before things sink in???

Plus I own several Sylvan Learning Centers so if you are going with reading comprehension- go with the best.

In the four games Moore played the most in Smith had:

5/75/1

3/66/1

4/50/0

9/85

His worst game was 4 catches for 50 yards? Averaged over 5 catches a game and almost 70 yards a game. Pretty damn good.

As for comparing a QB to Favre and Delhomme at his best, do you really think a project QB who has to LEARN the fundamentals of being a QB is going to have that same impact? Sure in a perfect world he'd pick it up no problem and set the league on fire the the chances of that happening considering his circumstances are slim to none.

That is not good that just doesn't suck. He also had 4 games and didn't have 1 100 yard perfromance.

I don't think Newton is a long term project. I think that he will struggle his rookie year but if he gets to play will only improve. By year 2 he will be as good as Freeman or better. What made Freeman great is that he worked his butt off everyday. everything I hear from Newton say he works hard as well. I suspect he will come in right away and be an upgrade to Clausen. As for Moore, it is hard to know what he will do or how he will come back from the injury.

I think you guys really underestimate the transition he will have to make. It's bigger than anyone in recent memory.

You don't just take any QB just because you are in the first round though, that's retarded at best. If Luck was there, sure you take him, but he's not and none of these other guys are worth the gamble.

Clausen may still pan out to be great and Moore still has time to show his ceiling.

Drafting yet another project would do nothing for this team this year or in the near future.

Well this is where we disagree..... I dont see it as just taking any QB.

I am ok with Clausen, but not enough to pass on Cam. I dont see having Clausen and Cam as a bad thing.

As as for Moore.... ugh.......

I would be curious to see the exact number of rushing yards by Stewart and Williams in that stretch. If I recall the Panthers combined and averaged closed to 200 yards a game in that same stretch. That played a huge role, and that is not going to happen nor should be expected to happen every week. I dont ever recall Moore doing anything or even looking good when the running game wasnt blowing it up. Matt Moore is NOT the solution or answer here.

That was this year...

Williams 62, Stew 12

Williams 54 Stew 43 (Moore was pulled in Q3 of this game)

Williams 44 Stew 29 (2.2YPC)

Stew 30 Moore 5 Goodson 1 ()

I can't remember anyone working harder with a coach to improve in the offseason even after his combine and pro-day are over. This is even more admirable given the lockout. He is working very hard to be the best he can be. That kind of effort goes a huge way toward mitigating the transition.

My bad.. I was referring the stretch at the end of the season prior. As far as this past season, I wasnt impress at all. He did not look very good and nowhere near the "level" he was at that prior year and I think it had alot to do with the RB's werent putting up the kind of numbers they did.

Of course we can always try to factor in the negative effect of the rookie Wr's and playing calling, Fox, etc... etc.

Oh well and anyhoo.... we will know in a month which direction the Panthers go in.
