2002 WS: Angels (16) Giants (9)

2001 WS: Dbacks (8) Yankees (2)

Average 9.6 & 12.5

Considering there are only 30 teams in baseball, those aren't outrageous numbers being just barely in the top 33% and being just slightly above the median for the loser.

There would actually be three level of teams in the NFL if this happened, not two i.e. the haves and have nots.

There would be the teams that overspend like the Yankees and Red Sox do year in and year out. Then would come the competitive teams like the Phillies and Giants and the Cardnials. This group would really make up the majority of the league. Then you would have the Rays, Marlins and Pirates. Teams that purposefully don't spend money on players. These teams would probably number the same amount as the teams that overspend.

Basicly, the Panthers would actually fall into the upper section of that middle group. No, Richardson would not have the market to draw in the amount of money that New York, LA and Chicago can but one thing Richardson has in his favor is being able to control the markets in Raliegh and SC and even southern VA (VA Beach and Newport News). Other teams are in the same situation like Atlanta or Seatle. The teams that would suffer more so would be teams in Florida or Missouri or Ohio where the teams are just too close together to control a large market area and/or they are too close to the major markets.

However, unlike baseball where teams like the Pirates are still able to turn a profit each year while still fielding a horrible team, the NFL would not operate the same way. Teams like the Bills and Jags would have to relocate in order to control enough market area to sustain the team. A couple of teams might be able to get away with staying put for now but I think eventually owners are about making money and the draw of places like Toranto, Las Vegas and of course LA will be too tempting to some owners.

No doubt it would be a different league than we are use to. But I'm not so sure it would end up being a bad league. Just different than what we are use to.

I've got bad news for ya, southern Virginia is die hard Redskin territory. Hell, even eastern NC (where I live) is die hard Redskin territory. There are more Redskins fans on the Outer Banks than Panthers fans. I know, it pisses me off because I have to see them all of the time. The reason for this is our television networks come from the Virginia Beach/Norfolk area and they have broadcast nothing but Redskins games for decades. Even when we got the Panthers Virginia stations still broadcast Redskins games. It is not until you get farther inland into NC and find NC stations in Little Washington and Greenville that you start finding Panthers games on TV and we out here, don't get those stations as part of our television package.

Don't count on any part of southeastern VA to be a part of Panther nation when it comes to market shares. Not sure about western VA but I'd pretty much guess all of VA belongs to the Redskins.
