Gabbert question

Jackofalltrades

I have heard the contrary from Mayock. He said, Gabbert has all the tools to be the #1 overall pick if the Carolina Panthers believe that Clausen is not their franchise guy. He said Gabbert is worth the #1 pick if that's the case because a franchise QB trumps all. I do not follow McShay because I believe he is a tool, and does not have any real sources.. most NFL scouts despise the guy.

that's because he's a quarterback. if he was any other position, it wouldn't be like that. the value of a quarterback is weird and changes things. it makes people ignore some issues a player has.

it's basically why Gabbert isn't at #1 of his big board, despite him saying that.

The only part that I don't agree with what you are saying is that Gabbert would be a reach at #1. He may not be the top player in this draft talent-wise, but I don't believe that makes him a reach. Just like Matt Ryan wasn't the best talent in his draft, nobody would consider him a reach at #1 overall.. simply because he is a QB, and it's the most important position in football.

There were some people who thought he was a bit of a reach but by the time he fell to where he did it was okay.

Anyway I know what you mean. I like Gabbert, and I'd be happier with him than any other QB prospect, I just feel we can improve the team more in other ways.

How so? I'd rather have Mallet Dalton and Stanzi before Gabbert. He might be the QB I like the least.

I honestly don't see us in position to take Dalton (or Ponder) without trading back into the second. Stanzi maybe at the top of the third, but a lot of that will depend on who we go #1 overall if we could even afford to use a third on a QB.

I prefer Gabbert because I think if you're going to gamble on a QB given the immense youth we already have, you might as well go for the best prospect you can. Otherwise, just stay away from this QB class entirely unless someone falls to us.

Our views are quite similiar in regards to the rest of the QB's in this draft and where they might fall. I just think of Cam how you think of Gabbert.

If we go DT, CB, or WR i'd love to go Kaepernick with our next selection

I understand why people like Cam and I have no problem with them liking him more than Gabbert, I just don't see it the same way. They've both got issues that to me make them unlikely #1 picks, but I think that as long as they end up in the right situations and assuming both make the most of it and don't run into any unforeseen injuries or what not early, they could both be good quarterbacks. I just don't know that this is the right situation for either of them, given our youth at QB.

Unless someone does fall to us in later rounds, I would rather we avoid QB all together. However, the Panthers brass have way more info on the QBs in this draft than I do, so I'd support them with any QB they picked and get behind the guy.

Kaepernick really intrigues me, wouldn't bother me if we picked him up.

Mav1234 understands football

Panthers55 can sometimes read a stat sheet clearly

It amazes me how so many people can look at a stat sheet and take it as truth, but not look at the underlying causes of that stat sheet and incorporate that into their argument.

TRD posts a lot with lots of opinions which are rarely backed up with any facts or stats. Anything he says should be interpreted as his opinion only. What he say neither amazes nor surprises me.

He also comes from a one read offense...the difference between him and Cam is if cam's first read isn't open then he pulls it down and makes a play with his legs...which is frowned upon this day and age. Gabbert gets happy feet...doesn't hang in the pocket however he does keep his eyes downfield while he runs towards the sideline and out of bounds.

I agree with what was said earlier about the lack of QB talent in the draft...that's why Gabbert came out this year. Because he has a chance to be a top 10 pick. But there have been worse QB prospects before...Tim couch/akili smith, David Carr/Joey Harrington.

He absolutely DOES NOT come from a one read offense.

Gabbert's strength is making reads at the LOS to take what the defense give him.

The issues I have heard was being able to handle pocket pressure and how that impacted his decision making.
