Well im sure im nearly alone in this but I think Carr could have been a great QB. He had absolutely no help and his record setting sacks destroyed his confidence and ultimately his career. Carr wasn't good when he played for us but I have no doubt that he played his heart out to be the best player he could.

We are in no way in the same shape that the texans were in when Carr was forced into the line up.

Destroy a QB's confidence and you destroy the QB.

Kinda like we did to Moore when we drafted pickles.

No point in crying over spilled milk. Time to get a franchise QB so that we can be competitive in our division.

Or pick defense so that we can repetitively lose to the Saints Bucs and Falcons by a few less points.

THIS.. I don't get how people here seem to overlook the fact that we had the WORST OFFENSE (let me repeat that, OFFENSE) in the NFL, not defense. If we continue to wallow in the quagmire that is our qb situation without taking a chance at drafting a potential franchise qb, then we are not going to be competitive in the NFC-South, much less the NFL in its entirety.

And who in the world on this board can be absolutely convinced that a qb that we would draft will be a bust or not? I hate the fact that some people are saying "don't draft cam because he will be a bust." How the hell do you actually know what exactly will happen with him in the future? Or any other qb or prospect that we draft? Do you have some magical orb that lets you see into the future to determine if a someone will bust or not?

If we draft Newton, he'll have to sit on the bench for 2-3 years. Newton is super raw... He won't run away from anyone in NFL and his passing ability is suspect at best. If we draft Newton, we'll have to get a vet to start. Means, Pike and Moore r good as gone. It does not make any sense to me. We drafted Clausen last year cause he was raw.. We threw into fire and watched him burn, now Newton... FO can't really be this stupid...

Great logic OP. Just, top notch sir, top notch.

You're posing the argument that:

David Carr had an amazing final year of college football

David Carr was chosen #1 overall

David Carr was a complete bust in the NFL as a QB

Cam Newton had an amazing final year of college football

Cam Newton may be chosen #1 overall

Therefore it is likely Cam Newton will be a bust in the NFL as a QB

Seriously?

Ok, so by this logic we should NOT want players who had great final years in college. We should be looking for guys who had terrible/mediocre final seasons? We should be looking for a guy that every team DOESN'T want?

This is just stupid logic. I'm not even a Cam Newton 'wanter,' but this kind of garbage thread makes me want to be.

Guess what, if we draft Newton, you should be happy. Because you don't know poo about scouting, neither do I. If we draft Newton it means he's been through a exorbitantly heavy dose of scouting, investigation of character, practices, vetting, tape watching etc. and after all that they chose Newton.

If we chose Newton I will be ecstatic, no one questions his potential/upside, and if our team trusts enough to take him at #1, it means they believe he can reach that potential and that he isn't a bust, and I trust them a hell of a lot more than some tard on a message board saying that since David Carr had a great final year of college ball we should be wary of choosing Newton.

I'm not a Newton fan-boy, but you are trying to equate a guy who had nearly 1,500 rushing yards to a guy who didn't have 100. Newton and Carr just aren't comparable.

Since when are rushing yards a factor that determines successful NFL QBs?
