I loved it!

Had a lo-Tech weekend so we went to the movies.

I'm sure critics will say this and say that but I always march to the beat of my own drummer when it comes to entrertainment. That's all it is, entertainment, no social message, no this is how history went down, yadda yadda.

It is a view of somebody's imagination and I feel it was done well. I was even impressed during a certain scene that if you saw what they did, it would make you appreciate the attention to deatail. And it was during a non-fight scene, very classy.

Besides, what's not to like?

Hot chicks, nice weapons, CQB, mechs, samauri stautes with shoulder fired rocket and a min-gun, killin' natzies and a bitching soundtrack.

three thumbs up (ok, maybe the third one is not a thunmb :D)

If this movie shows in 3D at an IMAX theater within the range of my car, I'll be going to see it again. It's *that* pretty.

Why is it important that the theater be so close to your car? :p

After reading your synopsis, it does sound a bit more interesting than I gave it credit for. I'd probably see it now that I know there are zombies in it.

It was great for what it is, and Scott Glenn was hilarious.

this..

Saw it on Friday and I like it more with every passing day. Although you self-important, hipsters film critic wanna-bes will never agree with me on this (or admit it if you did), this movie was good. Not just in a visual way (although the visuals were superlative), but in the general sense of it being far better than it had any right to be. I went in with high visual expectations and very little else but came out having thoroughly enjoyed myself for the better part of two hours. It's got a lot of things going for it:

  • Graphically it's f**king stunning, both from a cinematography standpoint and the use of motion
  • The soundtrack is solid
  • Scott Glen is awesome
  • Turns out Emily Browning is an actual actress (who knew?)

None of this even addresses what this movie is fundamentally about: beautiful, young lingerie models who use machine guns, rocket launchers and samurai swords to fight hordes of zombies, robots and dragons while gorgeously rendered steampunk environments inexplicably explode and collapse around them. At another level it's about a wrongly imprisoned and abused woman in a mental institution who uses fantasy to empower her to escape before a doctor arrives in 5 days to lobotomize her, so the requisite amount of darkness is there as well.

edit:

And who would've ever thought the little girl from Lemony Snickets had this voice?

zombies are what will keep me from seeing it. wife is terrified of them. i can't explain it. she won't even watch Shaun of the Dead though.

Took me going back after the movie to realize that it was Babydoll singing Sweet Dreams at the beginning. Very good soundtrack and how it integrated into the movie.

downloading right now....:)
Welcome to 2005! lol

    • We are wearing black jerseys with blue pants. I'm getting a little exhausted with all the combos.  I kinda miss the black/silver and black/black for certain games tbh.
    • Its not something that could be backed up by data one way or the other.  Its just an opinion, like most things stated here.   Regarding my comment that started this discussion, Imo its more difficult to find good offensive linemen than wide receivers, due to a number of factors.  Granted that anyone that reaches the NFL has elite skills, but  I think that most players with the size, strength and skill would rather play on the defensive line.  If an offensive linemen does his job well, no one hears his name.  But if a Dlinemen gets to the qb a couple of times a game, all the fans know it.   Have a good offensive line directly impacts the run and passing attacks.  Where as have a good group of receivers only indirectly impacts the run game.  Miami's run game has taken a huge hit this year, while ours have improved.  I think Hunt is a big part of the reason this is true.  Not the only part of course, but a big part.
    • Where is the Roaring Riot tailgate these days. Probably the best bet
