How to buy a domain name

I have been working with Amazon's EC2 servers for the last few years and will completely attest to them. You can register your domain at GoDaddy and point your A record to an elastic IP associated with the server you set up.

godaddy. They have a WHOIS search right on the main page to see if your name is taken. They try to sell you a lot of stuff that you may or may not need - I registered my name just because some douche real estate salesguy had it and let it expire, but I am working on a site for something else that I can transfer the A record over to. Actually having my own web site with my own name is almost as douchey as being a real estate agent.

I was going to buy my name. Am I a douche?

if you buy from godaddy, Danica comes to visit you too....double bonus

She never showed up.

If you do get a domain name, be sure to keep up on the renewal fees. I used to work for a company and we had an estimator who would keep tabs on our competition's names. If they lapsed, he would lease the name and have it forward to our comppany. Totally legal apparently.

When they found out he would "sell" back the rights to them.

If they were playing fair on bids, they got it back for fees and a small add on.

If they were cutting throats or using contacts to beat us, the price went up.

His office had a bunch of payoff checks on the wall.

Kiss my douchey @**! Oh, wait. I'm not a real estate agent any longer. Never mind!
