Trading down is their goal.

Lol. I have been laying low because I am in New Orleans partying this weekend.

But I found it pretty hilarious to see guyd saying "no one knows. The decision makers would never say this. It is a process.

But yet can declare that tradint down is there goal.

Also had to laugh at the people who sayd shcefter has no clue but then point out the "playbook test" as if it were fact which was reported by schefter.

I think the scout presents their findings and Hurney says thank you then said scout leaves and people more important discuss.

This process will continue for a while since the information available will change up until all interviews and workouts are complete.

agreed... You do not want to show your scouts your bias to any particular player.

Shefter's game has dropped off since he joined ESPN. I find him less credible now, and much of what he says is speculation.

He had game? Please.

He was hand fed info all the time at nfln. Ya don't think agents and other sources weren't more inclined to go to him before any other none-nfln-source? I hope nobody is that stupid.

He had a great gig with the nfln. Wonder what he did to fug it up.

So everyone believes Schefter with the playbook test story but not this one huh?

The playbook test story contradicts this one.

It would be cool if we had like instant post translations for Newton threads. This would save alot of time just reading the same view only worded slightly differently a thousand times.

Example.

Mr Scot: I dont wan't Cam Newton. I dont wan't Cam Newton. I dont wan't Cam Newton. I dont wan't Cam Newton. I hate Cam Newton. I hate Cam Newton. I hate Cam Newton. I hate Cam Newton.

All joking aside, Shefter works for ESPN so that says it all, I just want draft day to get here. I got the popcorn ready to witness the meltdown here when we draft a QB.

I guess if I had a stupidity filter I wouldn't have seen this at all :nonod:

Try reading a little: http://www.carolinahuddle.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3031020&postcount=18

After that, try debating some actual facts instead of just posting this kind of silliness (if you're capable).

Right now, there is no dumber argument on this board than the whole "you all just hate him" thing :frown2:

No it doesn't.

The idea that Cam may be the front runner now has nothing to do with the playbook test. Just because Cam is tye leader doesn't mean they are shutting down their scouting department. It isn't that far fetched to have a front runner right now. As a matter of fact I would be shocked if they didn't have a front runner right now.

And you should note that Schefter had Michigan firing Rich Rod before it was a forgone conclusion. And his sources about Harbaugh were from the Michigan side of things. And although Harbaugh never interviewed he was heavily persued by Michigan but told them no which surprised a lot of people.

i agree. the more teams that come out and say that they are interested in cam newton, the more valuable our #1 pick becomes in trade value if the panthers say that they want to draft him.

personally, i dont think that the organization wants to draft cam, but if we tell "the right people" IE "sources" that we want to draft cam, then "those people" get the word out to the media that that is our intention, it makes our pick more valuable in a trade situation.

basically, I think that the organization wants to trade the pick, and they purposely told someone with media connections that they want to draft cam, so that they would have a better chance of dealing the pick. that is a pretty smart move, and it is what i would do if i were the one calling the shots. using the media to spread our smokescreen.

i think that the best thing to do this year is to either trade the pick, or draft a safer player like marcell darius or PP7. if the organization is serious about upgrading the QB position, which they should be, they should look to strenghten the position through free agency, and roll the dice about the lockout this season, and look torwards drafting andrew luck #1 next year.

I don't agree with your logic that this is all a smokescreen with Newton. Honestly many pundits have Gabbert ranked higher than Newton and he might be the first one taken. If we were taking the old smokescreen route we would be telling folks we were interesting in Gabbert just as much as newton. After all, who knows if Buffalo isn't using a smokescreen saying they want Newton when they want Gabbert instead. It cuts both ways.

Your whole smokescreen argument just makes you feel better since you want us to trade down or pick someone else. There is really no proof to suggest that your point of view is close to the truth.

I don't know if Buffalo wants Gabbert, but I know Chan Gailey doesn't like Newton, but the pick is not up to him.

Chan Gailey likes both Newton and Gabbert and has said so multiple times. Not sure where you got he didn't like Newton.

I don't put much stock in a "source" saying we're leaning one way or another because the only people that know wouldn't say anything. Plus, that's not what Schefter even said in that article, so unless he said it some place else I'm not even sold that is what he meant.

It could be true that Newton is preferred out of the quarterbacks, or it could just be that people close to the team feel that Newton is the odds on favorite. This, combined with Newton being the only one with a confirmed date with us in two weeks (yes I know the others will get books too) has me thinking it's very possible that someone who would know about this stuff may not have told Schefter anything. After all, last week he thought we'd pick Gabbert, now it's Newton. IMO, nobody is positive purely because no decision has even been close to made.

I know what he's said in the media.... but i also know behind closed doors he has communicated to an offensive coach that he does not like Cam Newton.... but like i was also told... the pick is not up to him.

You don't have to believe me.... take it for what it's worth. Just thought i would share some inside info.

If what you are saying is true, that's some pretty big smoke screening he and Buffalo have been doing... which would make sense I guess since they are the more likely trade partner for a team wanting a QB if we select one first overall.

I don't think that articles like this are indicative of the team smoke screening, though. I think it's just speculation all around at this point.
