Schefter Per ESPN Insider: Sources Say Carolina Goes Cam

Cool now we can suck two more years before he is a passable qb.

Why is it that people think the Panthers will be so much better if they draft a DT, DE, or some other position player  The Panthers record next season for the most part is going to be what it is regardless of who they pick.

Now this guy knows what he is talking about...you don't select a puzzle piece at number 1 overall...you select the picture of the puzzle so you can put all the other pieces together. Terrible analogy, I know, but the point is yeah dareus or petersen would be great but the only way this team EVER gets where we as fans want it will be to have a franchise QB...not Kyle orton, or Carson Palmer, or Donovan McNabb!!! We need a franchise QB that can get us to the playoffs year after year for the next decade. I'm willing to take that risk at number one...I know some our too wrapped up in being the "right" pick or the "best player available" but when you are sitting at number one (and you don't trade down) you take a chance on changing the franchise forever.

No we won't be good next year...but we will have a chance to put it all together. And that's something that a puzzle piece can't give us. We need the picture on the box!!!

God that's terrible...lol.

I actually trust this one. Schefter's value as a writer isn't what he can do as an analyst - he knows a lot of people in the NFL and gets legit sources, from which he gets accurate information. This isn't speculation. I really think it's legit.

You really think the organization would say "we won't know until the week of" then secretly make their decision and have 1 of 3 people that know the answer leak that info to Schefter?

Maybe not intentionally. They don't plan a big meeting and then secretly drop a letter in Schefter's mail bag or whatever. But these guys are human, people talk. I don't find it surprising that a few scouts for example are friends with Schefter and briefly talked about how much they like Cam over casual lunch. As I said, Schefter has connections.

we actually have no idea what was said to him. In fact, the premise of his piece appears to be that Carolina will make a selection that will create buzz to sell tickets. It's entirely possible someone was like, "Oh yeah, they're going to go with someone big who will really sell tickets and create a ton of buzz," and really Cam Newton would do that like none other... well buzz anyway. Not really convinced he'd sell that many tickets unless he started winning :P

I still think a lot of this is due to the fact that Schefter found out we're bringing Cam back in for another interview in Charlotte.

I find it very unlikely that a scout would let slip who they think we're going to draft at this point, but I could be wrong.

But even that scout won't know.
