Schefter Per ESPN Insider: Sources Say Carolina Goes Cam

yes he had to have heard something credible to get off the media fest of blaine gabbert..

No, he didn't actually have to hear anything.

That's the thing about these insider guys. They can say pretty much whatever and attribute it to "sources" (which as often as not turn out to be someone's agent, if anyone at all).

As mentioned above, the decision isn't even made, and the debates haven't even happened.

Don't be surprised if his view shifts again before draft day (maybe even more than once).

While Reed and Person say otherwise and Yasinskas bounces back and forth. It's all speculation. None of them has a clue.

What makes Schefter look dumb though is saying this right after Rivera makes a public statement that the decision isn't made yet and won't be until the week of the draft.

Meanwhile, on radio Marty Hurney explains that the pro days have just ended and so the scouting department will only now begin getting together to hash out the draft board.

So the decision's not made, the group that will hash out the decision hasn't met yet, it's all being run by a GM who prefers to have every last shred of info in place before making a decision, but Schefter thinks he can predict now which way the team is leaning, and for that, people pay extra.

Oy :nonod:

Reed has not made a prediction as far as I know. Yasinkas has changed his mind recently and says that they're leaning QB. Person is the only guy who's had Gabbert there. Please, they have been preparing for the draft since the season ended. It's perfectly reasonable to think they are leaning one way or the other. Maybe I'm naive but I doubt these guys are just making stuff up.

They have to write something, regardless of whether they actually have anything to go on or not.

And it's sports. What's someone gonna do, sue 'em for making a wrong prediction?

The head coach has said the decision's not made. The GM says the scouting department isn't getting together until next week. Schefter probably hasn't even talked to anybody with the Panthers, and attributes his answer to "what I'm hearing" while Rivera and Hurney continue to talk about "the process".

Knowing all that, why should I take this guy seriously again? :sosp:

As a rule, national guys should always be taken with a grain of salt, especially when it comes to small market teams like the Panthers.

I know we want to think they have deep insight to our team, but the truth is it's just speculation, and no one really cares because it's just sports.

As I recall, at one point Schefter had it as a lock that Harbaugh was going to coach the Michigan Wolverines (he was never even interviewed).

Also remember that last offseason, fellow "insider" Chris Mortensen was hearing from "sources" that we were going to trade for Osi Umeniyora.

These guys can be fun to follow and they do sometimes get breaking news, but speculation is still just speculation.

I guess we'll have to wait and see but I think you're clutching at straws a bit.

See the above post.

Could they ultimately decide to draft newton? Sure they could, but I don't buy for a minute that the decision's made yet.

And before you go thinking they're already zeroed in, you might want to consider for a moment that the whole "playbook quiz" is still yet to happen (among other things).
