Are you offended by the huddle

Do you work in Japan?

There is a difference between xenophobic and racism.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_issues_in_Japan

If there is a difference between the two why does this make any sense at all?

Being racist is not mutually exclusive to white people. Some of the most xenophobic people in the world are the Japanese.

I think your post was well intentioned, I just thought it was humorous that in you attempt to make a very considerate and nuanced point you completely stereotyped an entire ethnicity as xenophobic.

Even if there is are xenophobic issues in Japan to impose xenophobia on the entire people is one of the main problems with racism and xenophobia in general. It is trying to paint broad strokes over an entire race, ethnicity, or culture as something that shouldn't be applied to an entire people but instead to just the individuals who are committing the evil acts.

Some white people cry about this all the time when we accuse people of reverse racism or holding people accountable over the actions of others way back before the 50's and 60's.

That is where my problem lies with your post. It is indicative how most racism occurs these days. With subconscious stereotypes that unfairly paint a broad stroke of negativity over different races, ethnicity, or cultures. Nowadays racism usually isn't overt, it is subconscious.

I am fully aware that it probably wasn't your intention to do that, and I am just busting your balls to an extent.

But that is what a person much smarter than me meant when he said to "judge people on the content of their character and not the color of their skin".

When you say that Japanese people are xenophobic you are painting a broad stroke across an entire country and, yes, stereotyping them. That is all I meant.

Other than that your post was very good and heartfelt and I know you had good intentions.

By the way in case people are curious I am white.

PS- and I work with Japanese Americans mostly that are still very culturally Japanese but are US citizens. Once I realized you were referring to the countrymen in Japan I changed my post.

Something tells me that that number is probably inflated by smartasses.

Really, I thought the boards were more diverse. Zod needs to make this place more diverse or my future kid won't post here!

I'll paraphrase Catbert on that one.

Da longer it goes on here, Da verse it gets :sosp:

Perhaps instead of becoming defensive, small minded, and an outright curmudgeon you should listen and see where he's coming from and see if what you said could be construed in another way....and learn from that.

Just a suggestion...

Thank you for picking up on it ;)

So even a person who says they are against stereotyping can be guilty of it.

Class dismissed.

It's not really something to get worked up about. It's not like the racists on this forum have a say in whether the FO actually selects Cam or not. If we don't pick him you can't go spouting off, "oh look what you did you racist ****s". I guess you could call JR a racist but then that would just be you getting mad because we decided not to select the over hyped black QB you wanted for the franchise. Not saying everyone that wants Cam wants him because he happens to be black, he obviously has some desirable skills. But the whole racist thing can go both ways.

As for me getting offended. No I don't I've been around the huddle too long to be offended.

Well, there are no "under 18s" (supposedly)

How do you define minority? For the thread purposes, I think we assume "ethnic".

Anyone that isn't "White" was the definition given to me, even though "white" is the minority where I am.

I didn't vote in this poll but I really thought we had more minorities, maybe they just aren't voting too? I guess you never really know someone's ethnicity when it's just text on a screen.
