Going to Charleston...

If you get a chance, go to R B's Seafood. It's not far outside of Charleston in Mt. Pleasant. It' a really cool place right on the water and people can bring their dogs in the restaurant with them.

People drive right up to the restaurant on their boats to eat there. (some high dollar ones I might add) You'll probably see a few dolphins too! The kids will like the dogs, boats and dolphins.

This is what I was expecting... thanks for the honesty... hopefully I can snake a top bunk.

I am sure most people have a great time. It was just not a good experience for me. My son was hanging out with one of his friends and his friends mom was one of the most annoying people I have encoutered in life. I think that set the tone for the day. I am sure you will enjoy it and it is good father/son bonding and the history there is unique.

the low country food is outstanding. wifey and I visited while in college, and I had THE BEST seafood omelet I have ever had there. the ghost walk we went on was also really cool.

Anytime someone mentions Charleston, all I can think about is the food (and beer, of course). There are so many great things to do down there, and I've visited Fort Sumter a few times, but you would be remiss if you didn't have some good shrimp n' grits while you're down there. :p

A couple years ago, I was down there for a business trip. I had to be there Friday through Monday, but Sunday was a "down" day. So I spent about 6 hours hanging out at Patriots Point.

I visited every open section of the Yorktown. It's an amazing ship. There so much history on it. It really does make you think about the sacrifices of that generation. It's also astonishing that they had such elaborate technology 60 years ago.

Make sure you check out the other vessels too. They aren't as impressive, but they are cool to walk around.

Well I made it back... thanks for the advice guys... and thanks to a good set of ear plugs it really wasn't all that bad, I actually slept thru the night in the bunk. It was pretty tight quarters... 70 bunks in one room. I have a whole new respect for our guys that serve in the Navy.

The kids seemed to really enjoy it and I ended up getting some great Mt Pleasant seafood out of the deal.
